I think this is the first one of this carver I've seen.

I would have thought maybe a couple hundred for that pipe. I know Bo Nordh is collectable. But 5K seems loony.

Watched the last 90 seconds of the auction went from $5,000 to $9415 at the end in the last few seconds. Wow.

Nothing unusual happening here. Nordh is the PipeWorld's Picasso, and humans re$pond to that $ort of thing in a predictable way.

I'm not surprised that a Nordh would sell for ten grand, but I can't imagine buying it on ebay without being able to inspect it first.

No surprises on the final price of that pipe Bo is very revered and collectible, the shame of it is it will probably sit behind glass rather than smoked.

Looks to be Bo's take on an Ivarsson potato sack. Cool. Probably as sound an investment as you could make in the pipe realm.

Maybe it's just me, but the sense that pipes are part of ones investment portfolio and estate doesn't necessarily enhance the avocation for me. This kind of pricing definitely puts it in that category. I guess any expensive possessions fall into that category, but I like to think of my tobacco pipes as a means of relaxation like a tennis racket or fishing pole. I guess that's why workaday pipes like Dr. Grabows and Yello-Bole aren't a put-off to me.

I'd be curious how much that pipe would sell for if it didn't have the Nordh name on it. There does not appear to be anything spectacular about that pipe, at least on the exterior.

I saw somewhere, maybe on one of our forums where one of Bo's pipes sold for $16k. 5k might be a steal. Not something I'd ever have a shot at but there's one born every minute.

It's a $50 Stanwell without the stamping. As with any collectible pipe, nomenclature is everything,
Truer words were never spoke.
That price is rather modest for a Nordh. Three of them recently went for something approaching $60,000 each to a Chinese buyer. This has nothing to do with their actual quality. Nordh pipes, like Knudsen, and Ivarsson, are highly prized as bribes business gifts. When a hundred thousand nets you a hundred million, the cost is nothing.
A few years back I was corresponding with a Nordh collector and I asked him if these pipes really smoked so much better than any others. His response was priceless. He said, "They smoke about as well as my Grabows."

I can easily see this pipe selling for 40K in 10 to 15 years from now so it is a hell of an investment. I agree it is a shame it will probably never be smoked.
sabble, it does surprise me a bit that someone would say it smokes like a Grabow. Now if he said it smoked as well as a Rad Davis or similar quality pipe, that would not surprise me, but a Grabow, that I find a bit much.
