I've got some decent pipes. An Irish second is probably my nicest, though I love many of my basket and corn cobs. Anyhow, I've always wanted a classic billiard. I've only got around 50$ to spend and I'm curious for some suggestions. I could go savinelli for probably around that, any other suggestions? I prefer abnormally large or abnormally small bowls. Regular is fine, but either big or small will mean I get more work out of it. My driving concern is the size of the drill.... But I can open the pipe myself at least a little bit if I need.

Finish matters not. But billiard is what I want. Suggestions?

I like Aldo Velani pipes in that price range. There are several spiffy looking billiards available. This one, at $49, has an awesome blast.

So many good suggestions here! For $50.00 I'd also consider ebay. You could probably find something you're looking for there as well. Maybe even two pipes! I was just checking a few out myself.

I can recommend Savinelli Duca Carlos. I have a half bent billiard and it's one of my best smokers. A word of warning though: the break-in was a bit rough. I think it was the bowl coating so if you removed it it might go better. I'm not sure what recipe they use but I didn't care for it. All bowl coatings aren't created equal.

Check out the estates on smokingpipes.com, they have some good deals. In particular I think there's still a very traditional style "natural" Savinelli billiard for $35.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I don't own a savinelli, and everyone talks about them all the time. Am I going to regret it if I buy something else?

I ended up going with the Large Billiard pot Uberam3rica had suggested:

I'll let you know how it smokes once I get it....

I do wonder if i'll regret not having bought a savinelli... but we'll see....

Brigham Voyageur Rustic Pipe #103, 47.99 at cupojoes. I have one, liked it so much I got another which hasn't been smoked yet. I don't use the filter. Has a regular sized bowl but meets the budget.

For a future purchase in the same price range, that Savinelli is great; love my Savs. Also, take

a look at Iwan Ries Exclusives at their web site. Their pipes are in the $36 to $55 range and

have large or quite small bowls and smoke great; I have several and they're all first rate. I'm

the only big fan of these on Forums that I know of, but I don't mind sharing the info. Their

little compact bent billiard is truly choice.
