Just finished my 4th homemade briar pipe. The experiment on this one was full rustication with a dark brown stain, then a light sanding to reveal highlights of natural.
So far the tool-set I've settled on is: a carpenter saw, a coping saw, a rasp file, a ton of sandpaper from 100 grit to 32000 grit, and a dremel for rustication. I have added a buffing wheel to my tool-set!

Thanks! I try to keep it natural with what feels right as I make them. I guess where the shank meets the bowl is a particular area of effort that kinda gets that extra attention.

I just finished my 5th and now im waiting for the stain to dry before I wax and polish it.
Now if I can just get a band saw so I can make the cuts easier.... :|
