This thread is great ammunition for those of us who are short of the 46 mark. Thanks for setting the bar.
That's what I thought. Hope the wife buys it.

I have 22 and my wife told me last week that I need to get my own cabinet since my pipes, rack, and tobacco are taking up too much space in our entertainment center. I looked at her and asked with the utmost sincerity "You mean I can really have a spot in the house which is MINE that I can keep my stuff in?" and she said definitely. We went out shopping yesterday but haven't found what I want.
Long story short, I can now hit the 46 mark !!!!!!!!

I passed 46 about 8 months ago! Keep on buying you need to add a zero or a comma to your count next time :)

mso489, I think Peck, Harris, and more than half of the people on this forum would disagree with you...lol! I'm pretty sure I have seen Peck post more than 46 new pipes in the past month and a half!

I have 47 briars in my rotation now. Back in the day, I was probably at 150 or so but have gone through several culling periods. I have a twenty four space rack that has 23 Peterson's and another twenty four rack that I just finished filling with a Chheda from Smokers Haven. So, unless I cull more pipes, which I doubt, I only have space for one more Peterson. Either that or open another rack which then leads to more pipes to fill it, because there is nothing worse than a mostly empty pipe rack.
It's all about life discipline. However, when it comes to PAD, I usually lose out. I think my only saving grace is I have shifted my focus to more indie pipe makers. They tend to cost more so there are less pipes purchased overall.
But as the CFO would say, who am I kidding?

Nope. I make do with 5 pipes, and two of those are cobs.
Ahh. Another misprint. Maybe the mods can fix this ongoing problem? Lol
I actually only have 16 pipes, but most of them are slightly $$
If I don't like it, it has to go

Financially I really can't afford to buy any more pipes. But then I go on eBay and find little gems for $50 or thereabouts, and I end up restoring them. Then, I either keep them if they're great smokers, or I turn 'em around on eBay. Usually break even. I constantly cull the herd, and after many years doing this I've ended up with a nice collection of really fine smokers. But the days of buying new pipes, or buying high grades are long over for me. Just can't swing it financially. What I have noticed over the years however, is that you really can't tell how a pipe will smoke based on its price tag. I have pipes that I restored purchased for around $50 that blow the socks off of pipes I bought for hundreds of dollars. It's true that by spending more money on a pipe, you increase the likelihood of stumbling on a great smoker, but I've many examples that disprove the rule. Each pipe is unique. About the only hard and fast rule is the more well seasoned a pipe, the better tended its cake and airway, why the better it will smoke, especially if dedicated to a particular blend or blend type. And I guess that's part of what motivates me to check out different pipes. But that's part of the fun of it all. You never know what you're going to discover.

I have 13 and find myself smoking only 7 or 8 of them regularly. I've had the same stable for a few years now, but I think I'm going to start trading a few away. I'd really like to have a 7 day set of GBDs and a 7 day set of Comoys as the basis of the stable.
I'm no collector and think 46 sounds like a perfectly reasonable number. Unless I start making my own, in which case I'll have lots more ...

I say if you enjoy something why put a cap on it?
I could never cut off the joy of getting a new pipe. It's like Christmas year round when the mailman come.

If the pipe marketing guys and gals aren't paying attention to this thread, they aren't doing their job.

I ended up buying two pipes yesterday. A Falcon (my first) and a Savinelli Roma (my second Sav). Both straight pipes.

I just did a count, I have 46 pipes total. 44 of them are active smokers, the other two are in need of repair. Now, I said I would slow down at 50, but it might end up being 48 or 49 if you don't count the inactive ones. I've pointed my wife in the direction of a few that I like online for Christmas ideas, so expect I'll be getting one for a gift. I have an Aldo Velani on hold for me at my B&M. Then there is a Nording, a Stanwell and another Savinelli that I have in mind at the B&M as well, with the Sav being a maybe. So I'll probably end up with 50-51 total, but only 48-49 will actually be smokers. My funds are limited right now anyway, I just placed a TAD order (which I said I wasn't going to do until January) and Christmas is coming up. After January I've got a couple of bonuses plus tax return headed my way, some of that (not a lot mind you) will go toward TAD/PAD, but I'm also thinking of getting myself another gun or two. I haven't bought a gun in over a year, so I figure I'm due one! That will greatly cut into my pipe funds! So I may not actually hit my goal of 50 smokers for a while.

I agree totally with the 46 pipes is enough. But then I see another pipe brand or maker that I haven't tried and the accumulation grows. Darn, I've lost count and my better half wants me to make a database with values just in case something happens to me!!!
