Well, I’m hitting the big 4-0 at the end of the month! Have always wanted a Castello Old Antiquari shape 55, and found one at a reasonable price this morning, and pulled the trigger. Treating myself right!

Beautiful pipe. The 55 is like liquorice. Not everyone likes liquorice but those that like it really, really like it. I love both and that is a fine looking 55. Happy 40th. A geat decade. I will be 66 at the end of the month which beats the alternative but not by a lot.

I've always like Castello's shape 55, and I have a lot of company in this. But I have to ask why a 1/16th bent pot should gather such strong acclaim. It's a slightly bent pot, and nothing more.
I try to think about what drew me to it, and my answer is the many others who have loved the shape saying good things about it, lovingly photographed it.
