Great link to Twisted Sifters. I've forward the map link to a few friends, and I'm getting lots of feedback on those. Eye opening for sure.
There are a few of them exhibiting world population numbers in varying ways that are illuminating (especially #23). It is a generally accepted myth that the world is vastly overpopulated. The many problems routinely attributed to overpopulation are in reality symptoms of overcrowding. There’s a big difference. There is actually plenty of space on the world’s land masses for an even much greater number of people than exist now.
The real problem is that such a large percentage of us are crowded into mega cities like rats. IMO, this is the result of many decades of socioeconomic engineering. If we as a species did not allow horrific, and often criminal, mismanagement of money and natural resources, and if we ended the suppression of more advanced forms of energy production, there would be no population problem.
Another one that is particularly interesting and significant is #29 The Economic Center of Gravity Since 1 AD.
