Well, I took the tin to the B&M yesterday and the owner loaded a pipe and had a huge "aha moment". Compared to the new tin is is much smoother, as we expected, and the color is much more uniform when sitting next to a new tin.. Another pipe guy came in and I gave him a bowl to try. He went completely nuts over it.

I'll save the rest for those special moments when I can really focus on it and pair it with Macallan's single malt.

I've got some really old tins in the cellar (not near as old as yours I'm sure) but wish now

I had of had the forethought to put dates on them. I have no idea how old they are.

(Let that be a lesson to us all).

I didn't dte the tin but figured that I bought it just before I moved into my own house in 1977. Knowing my father never threw anything out he probably just stuck it in the basement china closet figuring I'd be back for it one day. Turns out he was right.

I really enjoy hunting for aged tins that are still sealed. I have purchased a few online, had a few sent to me and discovered a few at some B&M's. Whenever you travel always check the shelves, you never know.

I have quite a bit of this MacBarens that's over 20 years old, some in 100g tins and others in sealed 50g packs.
I'd be happy to open a pack and send out a 4-5gr. taste to the first 10 people who respond here. You'll just have to send a SASE.
When I have the 10 takers I'll tell you where to send it.

I also found some jars of the same tobacco, MacBarens Mixture, in bulk, that I had bought at the same time as the packets and put into mason jars. I thought it would be interesting to sample that and as long as we're at it I'll open one of the tins. So I'm going to be sending 3 5gr. bags, one each of packet, tin and bulk, all at least 20 years old, it will be interesting to see how they compare.
The bags and tobacco will weigh in at 20 grams, standard envelope is another 5 so one stamp should do.
Put HAND CANCEL on the front.

That's great, thanks Rob.
Just did a search trying to figure out why you would want to write 'hand cancel' ...
is it so it won't be processed by the optical reader machines they have now?

Yep, figured most of you will be sending white business envelopes and I think they may rip if they go through the sorting machine.

Hey recoil is it too late to take you up on your kind offer? Also if I'm not too late lemme know what types of tobacco you are into so I can return the favor. That is very generous of you to make such an offer.

You're in dhizzy, just room for one more left.
No need to send something although the offer is appreciated.

OK, it's all spoken for, like to see your opinions on what, if any, difference you find among the 3 samples.
