Pretty sure this is the same seller. Guess I hadn’t noticed the shortage View attachment 233097
I have a couple 8 oz tins of C&D SotE Flake....how much of a gamble are we talkin here? 50/50? Better? Worse? In my opinion all C&D tins are a gamble if not opened and smoked right away. I've opened so many moldy C&D tins that I just stopped buying them. If I do get one I open it right away and smoke it immediately. I like their tobacco but I cannot afford to gamble on it in my cellar.
I smoked a lot of SotE Flake. Always buy in 8oz tins. I’ve never had a moldy tin. Actually, I’ve smoked a lot of C&D blends, and I’ve only had two separate instances of mold, both in 2016 and both the times the tobacco was replaced hassle free. I’d say you are not making a gamble at all.I have a couple 8 oz tins of C&D SotE Flake....how much of a gamble are we talkin here? 50/50? Better? Worse?
Jeremy Reeves has addressed this publicly and recently but I don’t recall where. Here maybe? I think he said the occurrence of mold in C&D tins is like 1% which is excellent. It’s extremely unlikely you will encounter mold. If you do, contact C&D and they will replace them hassle free.I have a couple 8 oz tins of C&D SotE Flake....how much of a gamble are we talkin here? 50/50? Better? Worse?
Hard to say, I can only tell you what my experiences were. As others have stated their customer service is outstanding, they did replace my moldy tins without question. But that doesn't really do me much good as I was mostly buying it to cellar. So if I don't know that it's moldy for 5+ years I've basically lost out on that tobacco. Even if I open a 5 year old tin and find that its moldy and they replace it. They aren't gonna replace it with an aged tin, and if that blend is no longer produced they can't replace it with the same thing. So it's not worth the gamble to me. I will occasionally still buy C&D but I open it right away and smoke it, I just won't buy any quantity I cant smoke immediately.I have a couple 8 oz tins of C&D SotE Flake....how much of a gamble are we talkin here? 50/50? Not just that one. Everything that had red Virginias in them that summer.Wasn’t this the batch that had extreme mold problems and was pulled
Since purchasing C&D products from the late '90s, the summer 2016 blends with red Virginias have been the only time I've seen mold.I have a couple 8 oz tins of C&D SotE Flake....how much of a gamble are we talkin here? 50/50? Better? Worse?
Well 1% issues isn't bad, of course i think they do that "overall" so that 1% could be encompassing the past 50 years, 1% overall is just better marketing than "80% of this run".Despite these occasional problems C&D continues to thrive.
Ok, well that definitely makes me feel better.I smoked a lot of SotE Flake. Always buy in 8oz tins. I’ve never had a moldy tin. Tobacco is a natural and organic product. It ain’t gonna last forever.Do you want mostly natural tobacco that might mold or do you want chemical laden tobacco that is guaranteed not to mold but doesn't seem to age properly?
Reminds me of the experiment where someone put a real hamburger in a jar and a McDonald's hamburger in other jar. Didn't take long for the real hamburger to mold but the McDonald's burger never changed in appearance even after years in the jar. Which one is food and which one is just processed chemicals?
Now im not saying tobacco should mold or that if it doesn't then it means its not good tobacco. But rather, if the tobacco has zero chance of molding then you have to wonder what sort of modifications were done to ensure that.
