I know, having read the bajillion posts leading up to my name making the list that there has been a plethora of drama regarding the boxpass.
I apologize for not being clearer in my earlier post. I will lucky to be able to get a bowl from each bag in there for myself. I just don’t smoke that much. That is why I am so looking forward to the box and why the box is good for people like me. (People who, for whatever reason, haven't tried lots and lots of different blends). That is also what I meant by “tread lightly on the box”. One bowl or maybe 2 will barely dent the bags I saw in those pics.
I think this sort of brings up an important question: What IS everyone’s perceived purpose for the box?
I feel the box is an opportunity to SAMPLE blends they may never get a chance to try otherwise. This is particularly important to WA residents since it is SO hard to GET many tobaccos here. I would NEVER take a whole bag of anything, even if I had time to do so. For example, I would rather see 50 ½ oz bags in there than people take 10-15 1 oz bags and replace them with 10-15 others for a constant total of 25 or so blends at a time.
Now as things dry out or it is down to the last nubbins that is a different manner. All I am saying is my perception of the box is to get as many people to get a bowl of each blend as we can.
As for where the box goes:
I personally have taken The Box to the Lehigh Valley Pipe Club (a collection of the most erudite and benevolent pipers as there ever is to be found) and left with contributions from several members, including Russ Oullette, that far outweighed their deductions.
I completely agree that the rules needed to be reiterated, prompted by my post. That was one of the reasons I posted it. I am not a ‘better to beg for forgiveness’ person. I am actually glad you clarified and didn’t send me a cranky PM.
I was clear on where it’s going. It is only going places with me where it will grow. The Tinderbox is very supportive of Pipe endeavors.
And I think that since Kevin Godbee is the keynote speaker at the Seattle Pipeclub this month, the box will likely be safe at the meeting… =)
