I've ran into a bit of a concern. In my new Peterson I have smoked 4 half bowls to start breaking it in. I have given it plenty of rest 24 to 48 hours sometimes more between smokes. After the four half bowls i've smoked about 5 full bowls. So basically this pipe is still pretty new. I've been smoking nice and slow, maybe a little fast the last smoke but nothing crazy.
my last two smokes have been pretty bad. i just got in from a very bitter tasting smoke. the plip tastes bitter, the smoke was a little wet in the back of my mouth, and it wasnt gurgling at all. i even dried the tobacco out for 10 minutes before.
i clean with pipe cleaner after every smoke.
is it time already to sweeten the pipe? i thought it would take half a year untill sweetening.
incase it matters i've been smoking old dublin out of it.
any suggestions or help?

Can't remember off hand if that is a system pipe or not. If it is be sure to swab out the sump every smoke of it will get nasty.

Is it a system pipe?

I have had one in the past that was just awful.

I could only smoke it once a month or less.

It was a P-lip as well.

no its not a system. at least i dont think it is looking at the inside. its a kinsale rustic XL22. from the last two smokes it is tasting bitter towards the bottom half of the bowl. the first half of the smoke is still good.

I got my first Peterson pipe for Christmas and the same thing happened to me. I smoked about 8-10 bowels and then started getting a bad taste. I took the pipe apart, cleaned the shaft and stem good with alcohol and its been good since.

What jsharp said.
Some would say with the pipe having only that few smokes, a alcohol cleaning should not be needed but I don't agree. Sometimes I can go a good month without a deep cleaning other times much less. I think it depends on either one or a combination of the following: pipe, tobacco, smoker, enviorment (room/outdoor temp & humidity). There is no science to it so you can either clean it with alcohol or switch tobaccos. I would go with the former option because you can narrow down what's causing problem. If it smokes well after cleaning, then that's what needed to be done. If it doesn't then it's the tobacco. That's my guess anyway. Good luck and happy smokes.

it may be the stain or varnish they use. thought o seen a video of the dipping the whole pipe in the stain.
