Ive known a few, been friends with a couple and lost a best friend in Afghanistan in 2008.
Another guy I served with, a close friend, made it back after 3 tours with the 75th Ranger Reg, but died in a motorcycle accident while going home 4 days after returning back from the ME.
I cannot forget.

My mother and fathers final resting place at Arlington National Cemetery. My father didn't die in battle but a lot of the folks around him did. I took this photo two weeks ago. Walking thru is pretty sobering. When my father was buried, in 2019, this section (60) was largely empty.

My wife is there waiting for me.
It seems that two or three new residents are laid to rest every time I visit. Two new sections have been started in the past six weeks.
Every American should visit Arlington.

My Uncle John is buried at Epinal American Cemetery and Memorial, a United States military cemetery in Dinozé, France. Every year on our Memorial Day the people over there hold a ceremony at the cemetery in honor of those who are buried there because they are thankful for the freedoms they have today because of the sacrifices of others. And, there are people there that will adopt, so to speak a gravesite, and put flowers or flags on it.
For those of you for whom this is a rough day full of memories of those lost... my thanks.

There was only one Vietnam KIA from the small town I grew up in . Lt Dwight Cook was in an F 4 Phantom that was shot down over Laos . His Mom was the school home-ec teacher (yes , her name was Cook) . She literally fell to pieces at the loss of her only son . Hysterical . Had to take time off .
The body wasn't recovered until 1995 . When she received word she broke down again .
