Wow what a post. Such expensive items. £620 in old money for a cigarette case and only 21/ for nightcap and EMP :(

I was really surprised to see some of the unconventional shapes in the catalog. I'd never have guessed that Dunhill did anything like the SSK, for example.
I'm a little surprised that we don't see more of these items on the used/auction market.

I think that collectors tend to hang onto the more rare examples, they are highly sought after and command very high prices when offered on the market.
I'd love to have one of the Dunhill meerschaums in the traditional billiard, but even those are somewhat rare and go for mad money.
Quite a few of them, I'd imagine, trade privately between well-seasoned and very serious collectors, thus never really seeing the open market.
The older catalogs show even more bizarre shapes,

the "quaint shapes"...
...and they would also make bespoke pipes according to the customers specification,

talk about full service!
...for those who haven't seen them, the old catalogs are fun to look through, and I especially appreciate the fact that they're available for online viewing, because the actual printed physical object itself usually sells for mad money too, and they don't pop up that often.
Look here on Chris Keene's most excellent PipePages,

one of the best resources available for the enthusiast:

And,

Fine Pipes International has made available the 1927 catalog for universal viewing:

And,

Gary B. Schrier gifted us with some high quality reprints well worth the small investment to obtain them, great to hold in hand and leisurely look through --- he did a cracker of a job on an excellent reproduction!

And,

John C. Loring has been one of the most important figures in Dunhill history that his influence cannot be matched, he really really knew his stuff, and was kind enough to share all of the knowledge openly, or at least much of his knowledge, which was extraordinarily deep, that he had hardfought for and did much vigorous legwork to obtain, through the many years of his collecting.
He was an absolute treasure to enthusiasts everywhere.
God bless his Holy Soul!

It took me a while to actually come around to liking Dunhill,

then I experienced a sudden shift of opinion and went into a full-fledged White Spot fever!
I'm not ashamed to admit that I am a Dunhill enthusiast.
