I lucked into this eBay auction win, and initially, I didn't quite know what I had. The stamping said pre-Republic and I love Premier Selection pipes. I was not familiar with the 02/Oom-Paul shape. Mark Irwin shared some information with me, that I include in the Reborn Pipes blog, which can be found here:

Great bones to start with and I was super stoked to find the original bone, system condenser intact.

Congratulations on a great purchase !! I was monitoring that auction and considered bidding even at the last few seconds but I already have 4 Hungarian shaped pipes although none of that quality or vintage. I'm very glad it went to someone who will truly appreciate it. Enjoy every bowl !

As mentioned, I was very surprised that there wasn't more interest in this pipe. And that I actually won the auction. I just checked the bids. My winning bid was the top bid - by .03 cents! I always bid odd amounts, which sometimes pays off.

Mark once told me that the Premier Selection grade was more rare that the higher grade Deluxe.

That really isn't your typical shape. Just sell it to me now so it can stop throwing off your collections vibe.
You are not wrong - this is way out of my wheelhouse. Mark said the system works beautifully with this shape. This is actually my only true system Peterson,

Question - how the heck do I get a cleaner thru the draft hold into the bowl? It seems clear, but the hold appears to be perpendicular to the sump well.

I'm smoking a bowl in it now, wow, Mark was right. I just have to be careful not lighting my eyebrows when putting a match to the bowl. I thought the draft, thru that deep bend and then thru the bone condensor would be a tight draw, but it just right. Man, it hangs effortlessly.

Well crap you figured out that it hangs effortlessly. I don't know if you will need to use a pipe cleaner while smoking with the system. I just take the petersons apart and clean the stem and bowl/sump seperately.

I understand that - but at some point, how is the draft hole clean? (or piece of tobacco removed, etc)
Use a flash light and find the hole inside the well. You will have to do it with the stem out. I doubt you will be able to go through the stem that's not how a system is designed. As for clearing tobacco use a poker or stiff cleaner or just blow through it. It takes a bit more effort but its a trade off for the better cooler smoke.
Once you get used to it you may not want to go back to the run of the mill regular pipe ... just sayin' ;) :ROFLMAO:

An aluminum chimney probably won't fit the threading of the bone, just use the bone, don't tighten it down and it'll be fine. They can seize so keep it just at the point of threaded all the way in.

You really did a nice job on that one. I thought we were going to see another full-bent that wasn't an Oom Paul but sure enough you delivered the goods!!
