I'd received this pipe from, I think, portascat a few months ago, but cannot find the picture that was posted at the time.
After some investigation and information received from Baskerville regarding Cyndi's Stanwell volcano, I found out that this pipe also had a patent number dating it to 1948. I had to do a lot of clean up getting the tar cake not only out of the bowl, but off of the top of the plateau. It went through a pipe retort treatment, complete refinishing/sanding with a new two-tone stain and a thick coat of Carnuba. The stem fits a little odd for some reason, so I will probably have another one made for it soon. Thinking of going acrylic. It's a massive chunk of briar, but I think for my second stain job, it looks much much better.
