I would LOVE to see the LC be the shape for the pipe carving contest @ KCPC someday......... :puffy:
10-4 on that.
The necessity of drilling a curved airway means it will probably never happen, though.

[/quote]I thought that I had a shot at this "Lasieni"....but it went far beyond what I was willing to bid for that condition.

A Patent era Putney isn't seen that often.

I have a nice immaculate 8 Dot version with stinger. Paid about $38 for it. I also own a "Blythe" which is the same shape in a rusticated finish. Also mint.
Who would pay that kind of money for a pipe that looks like a tank was driven over it?
Well, to answer this question, I would!
I am the new owner of that "Lasieni". The stummel is actually in excellent condition. The smudges were simply that. They were are smudges in the was finish, and disappeared after warming in the first smoke. There are some scratches in the stem, but I can live with that in a pipe this old. The only real damage was the broken stinger, which I had planned on pitching anyways.

As a collector of Sasienis, I think that $200 is actually a fair price to pay for a fishtail era smooth.
And, I really appreciate the Putney shape.

@ssjones, I don't own a Blynthe, thought I'd like one.
I'll be sending out the Putney for a professional to restore, along with several other old Sasienis.

I'll be sure to post an after picture.
I'm smoking the Putney now. This is going to be a terrific pipe.

I just realized that my Sasieni shape charts don't show the Blynthe or the Putney - does anyone have a link for a chart that shows those shapes (I'm wondering what else is missing).
This is the chart most typically found online:

Al, you need to look at the pre-War catalog and shape list for the Putney/Blythe (shape 15).

My Old England 715, and my comment on it at the time I acquired it,
Crossing another shape off the list! The Putney. I'm going to guess this is a pre-war pipe as it is not seen in later catalogs/flyers. A short little apple. The page is from the mid 1930's catalog. Also on this page is the K of K, what a great name for an English pipe! I don't know if the K of K was made as a "second" (it's not listed in the seconds price list for the catalog), but it's shape 21. It may have only been made as a top of the line Four Dot, which I guess I could understand...it's the K of K!

There are quite a few shapes that were not in regular production/discontinued(?) after the War, esp. paneled ones, and some of the lovely, thin, long shanked ones.
@kiefer, it pleases me that someone bought the pipe that appreciates it!

Surprised at myself for not being overly keen on that shape. Not sure why either.

Ah, I finally found a Blyth, with this description. I love this shape.

"SASIENI EIGHT DOT PATENTED "BLYTH" RUSTICATED APPLE!!!

This little chubby rusticated apple was known in the Sasieni lineup as the Blyth. It was the alter ego to the smooth finished "Putney". "

And this one.

Thanks Dave. I can only see the title page to the catalog. The Blynth is listed in the price list as being on page 23 - is there a way to see the other pages of the catalog?
We'll see, I just contacted the websiite.
