Vegas Baby!!!
Our JGuss reached out to me with his wonderful research and photographs of Wagner’s and Comoy’s correspondence. I’ll let his work and documents tell the story.

I am beyond grateful for his contribution.

These pipes have 17 Kearney on the label in the case. That also confirms year and location. Wagner’s was at 17 Kearney from 1920-1926.

First up is a link to the prior thread with pipe photos.

You are the luckiest wretch alive and I’m actually quite jealous. Beautiful pipes and J Guss is masterful with his research.

You should get some of those museum display case shelves with lights.
I'm reminded of a story from the '80s.

Forbes (of Forbes Magazines) paid the then record price for a bottle of red Bordeaux and promptly put it on display under lights in the foyer of the Forbes Building.

One day when dusting the display case the cleaner noticed the cork floating inside the bottle. The hot lights had caused the cork to dry up, shrink and fall in. A hasty phone call was made to Christies, the auction house in London from whom the bottle had been purchased.

The rejoinder was "I think you'd better hurry and drink the wine up, but I'm afraid it will most likely be vinegar by now".

Very cool! I remember looking over this correspondence at the WCPS and pointing Jon to it, as I'm too much a lazy ass to record this stuff and Jon is quite the opposite. I didn't connect it to your pipe set. It's fantastically long odds that any sort of corroborating materials survive at all, much more so from that period. Congratulations!

Indeed Jesse did. Jim was at the 2017 show too. Here’s a picture of the three of us in the smoking lounge adjacent to the show floor.

And another in the reception area of the Venetian hotel. Also in this one are my brother Matt, terrific carver Michail Kyriazanos, and Sally Gottliebson (aka The Pipe Tart).
