We drove through Nevada on our way to Northern California two years ago and really enjoyed the terrain. Our trip went from home to Mendocino via Casper, WY/Salt Lake City/Reno, etc. (waypoints basically, didn't necessarily stay at each place) but the long day from just west of Salt Lake City to Nevada City, CA was full of surprises in terms of the variety of country - salt flats were cool but expected, I'd say Nevada was the biggest surprise. Traffic from probably 60 miles east of Salt Lake City to just west was absolutely horrible, hated going through there. Nevada driving was wide open and pretty stress free - although Reno pretty busy and near Tahoe as well. The winding roads through the pines in Northern Cali were really cool. We hit a heat wave and it was bizarre the day we went from Nevada City to Mendocino that it was 90 degrees by the time we started climbing and as we were winding up and when we got back down and near Mendocino . . . . 62 - 64 degrees in the space of relatively few miles.

Beautiful shots, thanks for posting. Makes me want to hit the road, but I'm always itching for a roadtrip! Back in 2014 I drove an RV from Texas, thought NM, into Nevada to overheat in the desert, and finally into central CA to work my way north to Salinas and the Redwood Forest after that. I dipped up into a bit of Oregon on the way home. It was a good trip.

Driving out west can be so lonely and bleak especially I80 across Nevada. Those towns at night look so bright and promising from far away but never fail to disappoint.

Those roads... 🙂

So, what does the 'company vehicle' top-out at?

Work trucks are usually the fastest 😇
My truck is a 2011 Chevy Avalanche. I currently have 295,000 miles on it.

The first four years, when my father had it, only amounted to 40,000 miles.

Oh and as for speed, the speed limit on those roads is 70 mph and I keep it at 77 officer.

The I80 corridor is the worst. The views are fantastic, but the road rat towns are really bad. I blame the truckers. Not shaming truckers, but taking a full on bath in the stalls of a bathroom is ridiculous.

When I first moved here from the mountains of Western North Carolina, it took me about two years to stop mourning the abundant forests. After that I actually began to look around and down at all of the different flora. Now, with my wife and kids, we go out in the desert and explore. The thing that's so amazing about Nevada is all of the diversity. You can be on top of a high ridge surrounded by Indian Paintbrush, Balsamroot, Bitterroot, and Joshua trees. Then go a quarter mile and be beside a spring with Wild Iris, False Lupine, Willows, Currants, and Chokecherry. This truly is a beautiful place.

I'm sorry but the pictures of NV look butt ugly to me LOL! I hate the desert and all semi-arid regions (lived for many years in one and never came to appreciate it). I'm just dumb I guess, not to see the beauty there. Give me rain and snow, moisture that the trees and grass love. I'll suffer through the snow and ice, rain and floods, if I must--but I prefer the green stuff in Mother Nature :)). No offense intended.

Understood! None taken. When I was in the South last spring I marveled at all the various shades of green, knowing that others do the same here appreciating all the shades of brown. The difference for me is how I mentioned being from the West, I didn't care for the 'humidity' this spring. 😵‍💫They all smiled and said, "Oh this ain't humid!"...rotf SO...I will HAPPILY keep the brown & the low humidity. "It's a DRY heat!"nnnn
be well...
