I managed to grab one of the first batch. So far it seems like a good smoker. I liked the look of one of the elongated billiards, didn't realize that they would be sold out in hours. I figured "Hey, I like that shape and it's only fifty bucks... Why not?" My only issue with it is there is a deep fill near the bottom of the bowl.

I was curious if they had any fills. I couldn't see any in the photos but at the $50 price point it seems usual that pipes have at least one fill. Still interested in more feedback from folks once they get theirs and smoke them for a bit.

I have been stalking the SP web site and was waiting for the pipes to post today and 330 eastern. Found a billiard but with a longer than normal shank. Put it in my cart and was adding tobacco to get to the free shipping at $99. All of a sudden I get a stock alert that the pipe was no longer avail. I was a little aggravated and then remembered that you add all your baccy in ahead of time so that you then ad the pipe and pay up. I found another that was less and more of a lovat and added another tin of baccy. Got myself 4 Cornell & Diehl: Blockade Runner and 3 Rotary: Luxury Navy Cut. Normally I dont smoke pipes I buy new. But this was cheap enough that I will make an exception and smoke the bugger.
And since we all like a little pipe porn here she is in all her $45 glory.

It intrigues me that the chamber diameters on the billiards, which are all mostly similar in shape, differ and must have been drilled with different bits, which suggests they were drilled at different times (maybe). There's a lot of variation on these pipes on length, chamber depth and length of shank. Intriguing. It also suggestions you need to look at all the similar pipes to get the one most near what you want. I think the supply is down to 11 or 10 and sinking fast. These seem to be popular at this price.

Well there goes another fifty bucks out of my account.
Though the grain didn't really grab me on this one I like the length and chamber size, 7.25" and 0.85" respectively. I've paid more for less pipe. I think I'll be happy with it.

tuold, I saw that one two and was distinctly tempted. That's an especially artful French version of the Dublin, with its lithe profile. Nice.

@ tuold, somehow I missed that mixed up with all the billiards. I like that a lot. I will have to keep watch for a Dublin to post on the next update.

I snagged one finally. A plain old straight billiard. It's a really outstanding smoker and a good looker. Basket price, premium quality :)

@MSO, if you plan on getting one, you have to haunt the SPC website and order almost instantly when they go up.

@ woodsroad, you got the last of the billiards with horn. I have been watching them vanish. 76 I think it was yesterday.

I thought there was one of the thicker ones left and had a horn stem. I had one with a longer shank in my cart yesterday that disappeared while I was looking for tobacco to complete my order.

I got a horn stemmed one as well, along with 2 lb of Star of the East to get free shipping. They are NOT big, but weigh in at 22-30g, so I like that. Clencher here I come. Lol.

I didn't bag one of these, but I have four or five small pipes, and they are great for flake. Also, short smokes with loose tobacco, or samples at pipe shows, etc.

I have looked and had many chances to pick up one but can't seem to pull the trigger. Around 50.00 for an old pipe, semi-tight draw and some possible issues due to age, just can't do it so I went for an IMP Meer instead. I am happy with my choice.

I think the Smokingpipes.com description is clear that these were "everyman" types of pipes, the kind that just about any guy on the street would have in his pocket. I looked over some of the old pictures from the La Bruyère factories beforehand and thought this would be a cheap way to own a bit of history.
