Eight to ten seconds sounds like it would be right. The old alternative is to pack the pipe a few hours early or leave it, or the tobacco for the pipe in a bowl for a few hours or overnight. Most blends can get pretty dry and smoke well...sometimes better.

FVF is the only one I ever found necessary to micro. Other than that I wait out the time........

Microwaving tobacco is disrespectful. Tobacco is an exquisite organic substance that ought not be mistreated for the sake of expediency. If you want it dry, it dries just fine in the open air; if too dry add moisture.

Been microwaving tobacco for years. Works great every time.

Microwave, coffee warmer, heat gun, just leaving some flakes on my dash board, or just leaving the tins open all the time... whatever it takes to dry it out. Sometimes I don't even dry it, sometimes I just load the pipe and let it set there overnight to get a tad bit drier. I'm not dogmatic about it. Some times I even put some in a grinder and take it down to finer cut. Variety is the spice of life.
But, I just pack a little tighter for drier or finer tobacco.
Try things, branch out, or not. Whatever floats you boat.

I think Salt was being totally serious and I agree with him. You people who microwave are ruining your tobacco. There was a big study a few years ago and they tested guys who microwaved their tobacco for impotence. That's right, your dick will shrivel up and die smoking tobacco that has been microwaved.

Honest guys, you should you do what you want. But in my opinion it's a practice that disrespects a sacred organic substance given to us by nature that we could in no way duplicate. It doesn't need to have the polarity of its molecules rearranged, or whatever microwave energy does, though I'm aware that many find this expedient.
More power to you!

Man this discussion / argument gets really tiresome. For all you guys out there who wonder about microwaving your tobacco and it doesn’t go against everything you hold sacred about tobacco and pipe smoking by all mean try it for yourself. If it seems ok to you then continue doing it. If not don’t do it. I for one am through talking about it.

When I finish one bowl, I put the tobacco for the next bowl on a napkin. I prefer my tobacco dryer than many I would guess. For some SG tobaccos and plugs, I let it dry even longer.

I live in an environment that averages around 60% humidity. I have never needed the microwave method. Even at this humidity stuff dries out when it's at a low point pretty quickly. I suggest you make yourself friendly with weather updates and dry out when the humidity is low like I do. You gotta wait for it to happen if your at a coast.

So, it's not smoking tobacco, but microwaving it that makes it bad? OMG, Harris, I bet the Nobel Prize Committee busted a nut over the release of that scientific study. However, My wife and girlfriends would beg to differ. There's always lead in this pencil. Actually, I've read that touching yourself too much can lead to developing allergies to red Virginias. :puffy:
Let's see that study. :nana: And, you do know I am just busting you balls, Harris. The Briary has always made its microwave accessible to it's patron for drying tobacco in this 90-99% humidity, swamp that we call Alabama. And, it has for decades. It wasn't like I just started a rumor on something that I just made up myself. literally thousands of guys nuke their tobacco for 8-10 seconds.
But, like I always say, everyone can do what they want. Whatever makes this all more enjoyable for you... even if it does lead to an allergy to red Virginias. Just don't do it near me, ha ha. :puffy:

So sacred is it that we set it on fire!
