I've heard many great things about Claudio Cavicchi's pipes and was drooling over this one for a while. Never thought I'd bite because it was a tad over my budget. But with 10% off, I decided to take the plunge!

Wow! That is a beautiful pipe, and well worth a little PAD self-loathing... especially if you get to overcome said loathing with a bowl of your favourite 'baccy in a comfortable chair as you break in your new friend.
Nice pick up.

I have four Cavicchis...

He produces some of the finest pipes I have ever seen.
You'll love it.
I'm not a big fan of rustication, but that is beautiful.

My wife's gonna kill me. I placed an order at the end of last week. Then, I was eying a Manufacturer's second but had forced myself to look away. THEN they put up that pipe smoking deal... My wife's gonna kill me.
And that, Number 6, is a BEAUTY!

I love everything about that pipe! Nice choice -- and at -10% a pretty wise one.

Lawrence is the resident Cavicchi fan here, and I can understand why. Enjoy thousands of great smokes in that one!
ps. Even at full MSRP that's a great pipe!

That is a beauty, Six. It looks like a greasy pork butt, hot off the grill. Fire up some EMP in that, and taste the barbecue!

Very nice. I have a couple of Cavicchis and they are both great smokers. I am trying to discern from the photo whether this one is rusticated, blasted, or both?

It's listed as a rusticated billiard. Once again, glad to keep hearing that people like their Cavicchis! This will be my first.

Wrestling with the green eyed monster here, Six.
That Cavicchi pushes every button for me. Here's to a lifetime of wonderful smokes in your new burner, pal.

Six: Not to break the positive mood, I had one Cavicchi. Though beautifully carved, it was a disaster to smoke. The stain was awful and ruined the pipe. When I stripped the stain off it wasn't much better. I ended up selling it for less than half what I paid, which could have gotten me a good small Dunhill. It's connected to the recent thread about briar and aging. I don't think it was well aged, and he obviously has inadequate knowledge of stains. And stain is more important on rusticated pipes because there is more of it. The fact is, it was the last Italian pipe I bought, they have all been second rate. I know I should have kept quiet about this, but I wanted you to know about it so you could consider cancelling the order.

six, that pipe is a beauty. I have never heard of anyone not loving their Cavicchi's except this post from foggy. I know a lot of people that say they smoke as good as Castello.
foggy, your hyper sensitivity to stains is something that most smokers are not subject to. If I were six I would not be worrying about this pipe. I have smoked countless Italian pipes from Castello, Radice, Mastro de Paja, Ser Jacobo, Savinelli, Viprati and Caminetto. I would not consider any of them to be second rate and in all honesty the Castello's,Caminetto's and Radice's all smoked better than the 4 Dunhill's I have owned.

Thanks Foggy. I always want to hear the unvarnished truth (pun intended).
One thing I like about smokingpipes.com is the free shipping and reasonable return policy. If I don't like when I see it, I only have to pay the return shipping. I guess I will have to hold it in my hand and make my decision then. I may take my chances or maybe not - can't tell just yet.

At one point, I owned 16 Cavicchi's and all were excellent smokers. I traded most of them off because I went to a smaller bowl size/weight for my pipes. My only complaint with Cavicchi is it is very difficult to find his pipes in the 45g weight range.
You will not regret your purchase, Six. That is a very nice pipe you chose.

Beautiful pipe! You picked a good one, I love that rustication. Usually I do not like smooth rims on a rusticated pipe, but on this pipe it looks very good!

Thanks again everyone - much appreciated. This pipe was haunting me for a while, still wasn't planning on buying until today.

Luckily for me, I am not a clencher. But glad to know that you owned 16 at one time! If that's not a testament to quality, I don't know what is.

Thanks for your comments Cigrmaster. I think you are right, my tongue is oversensitive to stains. they have been a very important determining factor in my pipe buying. But if they affect me, they affect others too. There are many people who describe tastes in wines that I do not perceive. People like that should also be sensitive to stain taste. Sorry to put a damper on the party, Six, and wish that you will love the pipe.
