An extremely popular blend, and Sutliff’s answer to Lane’s 1-Q.

My sample is a year and a half old, and age hasn’t hurt it, although it’s drier now than April 2021.

Here is a delicious, slow burning, example of American “pipe shop” aromatics at their best. It’s not a candy flavored aro bomb, and not bland and too tame, either. There is a definite flavor of vanilla, the aroma is heavenly, and it’s a mixture of dark fired burley, golden Virginias, and Green River black cavendish.

Current prices are about $25 per pound, or about $2 an ounce for sample sized smaller orders.

Try some, to see why the classic “pipe shop” aromatics have a place in every pipe smoker’s cellar.

I got 2oz of this when SP was out of Crème brûlée & I wish I’d gotten more! I actually like it better than the CB. Very flavorful & just the right balance
The first commandment of making pipe tobacco is it must taste good.

If it’s a classic “pipe shop blend” like Sutliff 1-M if it didn’t taste good it would have been discontinued long ago, the same as the much maligned domestic beers.

I don’t drink much beer myself, but at my farm I buy Budweiser, Miller, Stag or Papst for my guests.

Nobody that likes beer, turns it down.:)

I envy those who can enjoy blends like this. I envy those who can smoke anything but Burley or Burley/Virginia blends!

I'd have many more options to smoke.

I work for a brewery in New Orleans & tbh when I’m out I tend to drink PBR, high life(low life), coors original, or some other domestic. The price is right & you don’t have to worry about them being out of date. When I’m visiting a friend & they offer me a beer, I take them up on it & say thank you. Nothing wrong with the classics.

I can't drink Miller Highlife anymore, too many skunk beers from the clear glass bottles. Skunk beer is made when light hits hops molecules, creating mercaptan(sp ?) which is what Skunks spray.

I beg to differ. The first commandment should be that it will be profitable and the market for that particular blend targeted.. Therefore a blend is developed for either a target market or, for the blander blends, to the widest market possible. Being that palates differ, a new blend is, at best, a crap shoot. A blender knows that tastes vary and can even be individually variable day to day, depending on many outside factors (health, diet, etc.) so what tastes good to one smoker may repel another. This is why a blender with a list of successes is valued.

You got to know your target market! Privately owned manufacturers have more leeway with this "commandment" than a publicly owned company of course.

No blender does it just for the love of it, for long.:)

When you see all these letters like 1-M or 1-Q or RLP-6 it probably is like the story of WD-40.

WD-39 wasn’t as good, as WD-40.:)

I wonder if 1-L and 1-N didn’t test as well as 1-M?
