My go to for seasoning bowls is Lawry's. Good stuff that makes everything taste better.
Why do you have to be so fancy, boilermakerandy? The store brand "match" seasoned salt is just as good with a lower price per ounce.
To the point of the OP, like others here I take a genre specific approach with some pipes dedicated to the single tobacco/mixture they best smoke. The one caveat here is that I break in all of my briar pipes with McClelland 5100 Red Cake.

I think the Lakeland blends really do linger in a pipe with some permanence, and a few other blends.

However, most blends, non-aromatic and aromatic, don't ghost with much permanence, except maybe

for a few exquisitely sensitive smokers who have incredibly powerful sensory gear. Latakia and the various

aromatic flavorings simply don't ghost my pipes between smokes. I couldn't tell you what blend I smoked

in a pipe when I rest the pipe and then, days later, light up a different blend.

I have a few blend specific pipes, but for the most part, the majority of my pipes are genre specific, i.e. pipes that I smoke similar blends in.
That's my strategy. I have two blend specific pipes, and one that may become one - not sure yet. Other than that, genre specific all the way.

I only smoke one brand with a few slight permutations to the mixture so all my pipes taste the same! As for seasoning I would have thought Stubbs Rub would probably do the trick. It works wonders on Cat Fish before you chuck it on the BBQ so I am sure pipe bowls would not present an issue!
