Corn Cobs - what’s the skinny?

Time to get a bottle of whiskey.

    A Visit to Missouri Meerschaum

Very much appreciate the post and pics. Sir, there is a thread in this forum, “Vintage Missouri Meerschaum pipes.” that asks about dating some nice old cobs. I’m curious about the dates myself, and you seem knowledgeable on the subject. Could you weigh in?

    Pipe Sighting at the Movies

Recently came across a neat little western I watched years ago, Hellfire, remembered I had enjoyed it, so watched again. Positive recollection confirmed. It’s a Republic B western vehicle for cowboy star William “Wild Bill” Elliott, with an excellent supporting cast including the lovely Marie...

    Vintage Missouri Meerschaum pipes.

The filled and sanded bowls were placed on a spindle and turned while a block of cottonwood was held up against them until the friction generated enough heat to cause the brown coloration.

    Vintage Missouri Meerschaum pipes.

Not seeing a model name in red letters, and given the dark burnishing, that pie is older than I thought. (I think.)

    The Liturgy of Pipe Smoking

A pipe may not have a soul, but it can be a totem, or a familiar. I form strong attachments to inanimate objects that are part of my life over the years.

    Vintage Missouri Meerschaum pipes.

These are all higher grade pipes. The first two are older, they have burnished bowls, a labor-intensive process that was abandoned in the ‘60s, I think. The other three appear to be later (70s-80s?) but they are custom grade. I’d like to see the label on the first pipe. That is a nice and rare...

    Dumb (Ignorant?) Question

Yes, and the best prices too!

    Dumb (Ignorant?) Question

I I found Villiger, but looking for the originals too. The Villiger marked pouches are about half the cost of the original Sutliffs I’ve found.

    Has anyone dealt with BMS?

Not familiar with that malady, but it sounds like a real pita. Hope you recover fully, soon.

What is the title of the listing? Can’t find it by the username.

    Dumb (Ignorant?) Question

Thanks for the information. I have found one seller who still has some in stock, so I will get it while I can.

    CS Lewis Pipe Smoking Anecdote

An old friend of mine, gone now, had a wardrobe that consisted almost entirely of jeans and t-shirts. The shirts all had holes in them from the embers of the cigars he smoked constantly. The older the shirt, the more holes.

    Possible Help With Tongue Bite

Been there, done that. But I have over a hundred mostly open bottles of whiskey around here.

    Possible Help With Tongue Bite

Cough drops sometimes contain mild local anesthetics and other soothing ingredients, which should ameliorate tongue bite. But bite is your tongue telling you something is wrong. Shutting down the warning mechanism is akin to putting lidocaine on your fingers so you can touch the hot stove longer.

    Dumb (Ignorant?) Question

Very small selection available in brick and mortar stores around here. I usually buy tobacco online, but all the online suppliers I use show Villiger OOS.
  18. Sam Whiskey

    Dumb (Ignorant?) Question

Thanks. Their pipe tobacco is OOS all over, so I was wondering if it was gone, or removed from the US market. I see their cigars are still in stock.

    Dumb (Ignorant?) Question

I’m new to the forum, just an old redneck who has smoked mainly cobs and what I’ve learned are known as “codger blends”, so maybe the answer to my question is so widely known the asking just exposes my ignorance. Or maybe the tobacco sub-forum was the wrong place to ask. Or maybe no one knows...

In Praise of Classic Grocery Store Blends

We make the best affordable whiskey in the world. I can point to good bourbons for $30, fine for $50. God Bless America and Elijah Craig.
