What do you think about this Thomsen Bent Freehand?

Thank you very much for the kind comments on this pipe. It´s really great to see this piece from your different points of view. When I saw it first, I really did not like it that much - the contrast stain, the ring, and the shape of that bowl is honestly not, what I usually like. But then I...

What do you think about this Thomsen Bent Freehand?

Dear Pipesmokers, I am quite certain, the German carver Nils Thomsen is not very well established in the US and Canada, but to me, he´s the pipe maker in the neighbourhood, and I enjoy hanging around and talking about pipes, the world and everything else in his workshop a lot. Thomsen has been...

    Experimenting with New Camera

Very nice picutre, Maurizio! It´s just as you said: diffraction blur is not visble here, and as your 180mm sigma macro is closed to f16, diffraction blur is surely not a problem at all. For anyone, who want´s to know more about the optical phenomenon of diffraction blur, will possibly find this...

    Experimenting with New Camera

You are absolutely right - if anyone needs to know the exact ideal aperture, these online depht of field calculators are quite helpful. In case of my f/32 4,0 secs picture of the Meer, I used a 60mm AF-D Micro Nikkor on a D300 Body and the camera was very close to the object. That´s why f/32 has...

    Experimenting with New Camera

Well - attaching a diffuser or bouncer onto a build in flash is always a bit tricky, and camera bodies can be pretty different. But there are some examples for bouncers that can be easily built: this could be interesting and here is another example. Maybe I can give some advice, when it comes...

    Nice Pipe terrible price

I promise - believe it or not - I am positively not this seller, and I have not the slightest personal or commercial relationship with Mr. Ponomarchuk. I just bought one of his pipes, am a very lucky customer - and the chances that I sell it, are certainly homeopathic. Kind regards Thilo By...

    Two more pipes: Wellington, Peterson

Worth seeing - congratulations! I like that Peterson, and the Zippo looks great.

    Nice Pipe terrible price

Anyhow - I just ask myself, who actually sells the pipe - or these pipes… Ponomarchuk doesn´t understand much english, so there´s possibly someone helping. I suppose I´ll keep using Ponomarchuk´s web page, whether I gonna buy some of his pipes again.

    Experimenting with New Camera

Thank you, bigvan - now that you´re asking it occurs to me, that these two pipes are both made by Nils Thomsen (a carver here from Berlin), and that they both have been a gift (yes, Mr. Thomsen is in fact a very generous and friendly person) - the Meerschaum belongs to my wife, the other one is...

    Experimenting with New Camera

I really like your pipes very much, especially the Weaver, the Dunhill Shell, the Howell and the Eltang Poker are exactly my cup of tea. Congratulations! ___________________________ I´m a little bit into photography as well and I am using mainly two methods when I try to shoot a pipe. The...

    New Members, Introduce Yourself!

Hello and a happy new year, I recently registered finally and I´m glad to have the opportunity to introduce myself: my name is Thilo and I live in Berlin, Germany, smoked my first pipe in 1998 and quit smoking cigarrettes, cigars and pipe sometime around 2001. Two years ago I felt, that I really...

    Nice Pipe terrible price

Hello everyone, my name is Thilo, I am based in Europe (Germany to be precise), and this the first time I´m sharing something here at the pipesmagazine forums. The simple reason for that is, I just recognized the discussed pipe and I know it´s maker. This piece was made by Alexander Ponomarchuk...
