Blending your own tobaccos
I am trying to get something in the ball park Frog Morton as well. Right now I am smoking a mix of 2 ounces Lane HGL (which has the unsweetened Cavendish) and 2 ounces of Sutliff Heavy English. It was very weak on the Latakia side so I added 1/2 ounce of blending Latakia. I'll be working on...- billm67

Find a Peterson that you like the shape and buy it. They have many pipes under $100 and I have several and they are all good smokers. When I started out I bought many basket pipes and they all are in a shoe box. My Petersons and Boswells (first Boswell I bought was 42.99) were/are good...- billm67

Blend specific pipe
I have broken mine out between aromatics and english. The other thing I tend to do is smoke aromatics out of bent pipes because they are wetter and I don't like straight pipes with wet tobacco. I like smaller bowl straight pipes for english...especially latakia.- billm67

In Praise Of The Peterson Irish Army Pipes

I loved Frog Morton as a good crossover from aromatics to a more english blend. I am trying to find a suitable replacement as I have been mainly smoking cigars for the last two years. Petersons and quality?
All of my Pete's are newer ones. I have about 6 or so and I think they are great values. They all smoke great and great shapes. I say go somewhere that has a few in stock because I have bought a couple online that I thought I would like but even though they are great pipes...I just don't... -

What Do Y'all Use To Scrape Your Pipes?
Case makes a knife called a butterbean which is a great little everyday knife. The blade makes a great carbon scaper. It is just the right size.- billm67

Zippo Inserts???
I have two of the thunderbird inserts in zippo cases. I have had them for at least four years. I have an old boy and several other more expensive lighters. But the thunderbird insert in a Zippo armored case is what I always end up using. They just work.- billm67

Suggestions for First "Good" Pipe?
You got some good advice here. Resisit the urge to buy "basket pipes" and spend a little more on a Savinelli or a Peterson. The chances of getting a good smoking pipe greatly improve by doing this.
