Just adding to this thread with a slight update. Still only using four pipes and happy with it. But I've today drastically reduced my burgeoning collection of 'museum' stuff. Also found another USA made Falcon here in UK, this time a No1 die stamp!! Also lovely little carved bowl. Not sure it is a genuine Falcon as it has a stamped dollar price underneath of $1.75!? Pretty though.- FalconForever

Managed to find a Rollit at a good price. These are quite rare especially here in UK. Made by Falcon USA way before production moved to UK. They were made under Rollit brand for sale in Canada because of trademark infringement. Turns out that they were ok to use Falcon as a brand so dropped the...- FalconForever

Of course they are an optional thing. I've smoked with and without and I personally find they do keep an already dry smoke even drier. Also I tend to use my tobacco straight out the pouch or tin without drying, so can sometimes be a little wet and the dry ring helps here. But each to their own...- FalconForever

As others have said, the whole pipe stem is aluminium including the tube even the coloured ones, which are either anodised or painted. Falcons are, abuse excepted, nigh on indestructible!
