    Bowl Shape for Aromatics?

    Finally, a clear answer :col:

    Bowl Shape for Aromatics?

I know there are general schools of thought regarding bowl shape for flakes and VA’s, but what about aromatic blends? All other factors being equal as far as drying time and the like of course. I seem to recall an article or video suggesting a short, wide bowl with a loose pack being a good...

    First Restoration Completed

I wanted to throw a quick post up with a low-quality “before” pic from the original EBay listing and an “after” pic. The pipe is a no-name bulldog with a couple of spot carved patches on opposite sides of the bowl. The only nomenclature is “Imported Briar/Made in Italy”. It has a removable...

    Coffee Compass for Tobacco Ratings

There should be a flavor wheel template that you fill out based on your personal interpretation of flavor/aroma. Then use that to track your experiences and then update the baseline every 3-6 months to see how it changes. Assuming of course the goal is to refine your palate.

    Coffee Compass for Tobacco Ratings

I think the issue with adapting the coffee compass is that it's (I think) intended to help troubleshoot your brew, and with coffee, you enjoy it after brewing it. With pipe smoking, you're enjoying it while "brewing" it. I guess one could start with something along the lines of a general flavor...

    Changing interpretation of taste…

Interesting. I know I have some that are topped that way -Ashton specifically, but haven’t tried it yet. This seemed different, I can only compare it to one of those geometric shape posters where you look at it and eventually a shape pops out - that’s what this felt like - the same “bright...

    Changing interpretation of taste…

I was enjoying a bowl of some 2019 PS Luxury Navy Flake a couple days ago, and just zoning out and not really putting a lot of thought into it. I’ve always like Virginia’s, and I usually get some general sweetness and what I had always considered “Virginia flavor” - close to the grassy notes...

    Buffing discovery

So I’ve started on my pipe restoration journey, and have been trying to ease into it, which is quite atypical for me as I usually jump into something head-first. Anyway, I’ve been practicing some techniques, primarily stem oxidation removal, and after several months of sandpaper and micro-mesh...

    TAD Acquisitions 2024

So, not exactly a typical TAD attack, but more of a delayed gratification… I was in my garage the other night looking for something and opened one of the drawers on my “workbench” and found this… I had completely forgotten about these for 4 years. They’ve all been aging nicely in my...
