Whatever way gives you the best results for your purpose. If you get nice flavor and smoke and a good result that's the way. I use a totally different method. I just fill in one long continuous fill from a pile of tobacco or a very wide jar using one finger. For me the pack is easier to pack...
You could try that. If you use a high enough proof like graves it should evaporate quick enough - quicker than water at least. But still shouldn't be too bad if you don't scrape the wet meerschaum. Meers are carved wet so far as I know. Wet meer makes easy carving.

I do. But using only a large soft 12 gauge bore swab and very little alcohol. Too much liquid would soften the meer I believe. Let it dry. You can just wipe with a dry cloth. No cake concerns.
Not a fan of the three part pack. I use a continuous pack using one finger to bring tobacco to the chamber in one motion. Hard to describe. I also ream my tobacco air inlets wider than provided. About 4.5 mm or 11/64 and the stem about 3.5mm or 9/64.
