Pack and Tap: Is my Strange Way Wrong?

No I just go by feel from my pointer finger. I wish I could explain better. I guess it just takes practice. Flakes don't fall like ribbon.

Pack and Tap: Is my Strange Way Wrong?

Whatever way gives you the best results for your purpose. If you get nice flavor and smoke and a good result that's the way. I use a totally different method. I just fill in one long continuous fill from a pile of tobacco or a very wide jar using one finger. For me the pack is easier to pack...

    Meerschaum Cleaning

You could try that. If you use a high enough proof like graves it should evaporate quick enough - quicker than water at least. But still shouldn't be too bad if you don't scrape the wet meerschaum. Meers are carved wet so far as I know. Wet meer makes easy carving.

    Bags for shipping?

You might want to read the rules about buying and selling on this forum to understand the process and also introduce yourself in the new member topic. Mostly the sales are whole unopened tins so the shipping carrier isn't an issue.

    Meerschaum Cleaning

I do. But using only a large soft 12 gauge bore swab and very little alcohol. Too much liquid would soften the meer I believe. Let it dry. You can just wipe with a dry cloth. No cake concerns.

    My Pipe Smoking Journey

I think it's the pack. Too light or too heavy you'll get burn issues. Try adjusting from lighter to heavier until it goes well.

    Gurgles . . . . .

Not a fan of the three part pack. I use a continuous pack using one finger to bring tobacco to the chamber in one motion. Hard to describe. I also ream my tobacco air inlets wider than provided. About 4.5 mm or 11/64 and the stem about 3.5mm or 9/64. You might try these articles...

    Dedicated Pipe for Latakia?

I do. My dedicated Latakia pipes build up nice cakes and smoke Latakia blends richer than when I mixed them among other types. To me the cake layer has elements of the tobacco in it so as it builds layers of flavor each layer contains the flavor elements of the smoked tobacco before it. If every...

    Ghosting Paranoia

Most likely this will not be your last pipe. Only way to know for sure is try it. If for example the pipe becomes ghosted Latakia then it becomes a dedicated Latakia pipe. It's not like it isn't usable. Then you go out and get another pipe either different or just like it and you know not to...

    New Piper and First Pipe

For the sake of your happiness at home I cannot answer that. 😂 Match 20 is rated at tobaccoreviews.com as pleasant to tolerable.
