    Salt and ̶a̶l̶c̶o̶h̶o̶l̶ benzine?

Why not just use a low boiling benzine for cleaning out the last residues of cake? in theory it should be much more effective, as ethanol is relatively polar, while all that carbon stuff should solve better in more unpolar solvents. Drying afterwards should work about the same.

    Real Perique?

A few days ago I finally openened my tin of Robert McConnell Pure Perique. Fantastic Stuff. Love it for mixing. Im on my first pure bowl right now (dare I say, it took quite a bit of courage, as the tin smells as if I cured my old underpants in a dung heap for a few days - fantastic stuff non...

    A Question regarding 1792 Flake

I finally was able to get a tin a few days ago. I took a good portion, rubbed it out, and let it dry for about a day. It's pretty dry now, but it has an alien feeling to me - noteiceable from the beginning when wet, but now that it's dry it's pretty distinct. It feels a bit plastic, or maybe...

    Bitter Taste in Estates

My Father gave me his 4 old pipes. He hasn't used them for maybe 30 or so years. They all had a good amount of cake, which i first scraped out, and then i gave them all multiple treatments with the Alcohol and Salt method. When i stopped the treatments, the Salt was as good as clear, which led...

    How is Barsdorf so good?

Käptn Barsdorf Dark Fired Kentucky. Seriously - per weight it's the cheapest pipe tobacco i've smoked until now (also, the "tin" consists of a plastic lid and a paper body), yet it's absolutely one of my favourites. If you were to send me of to an island for the rest of my life and i only could...

    The "Truth"

Title edited. Please use standard capitalization - proper nouns, beginning of sentences, titles. Every thread i encounter has some form of "YMMV", of personal deviations, of subjective experiences. i can't handle all that variety anymore. just give me the simple, objective truths about pipe...

    How Slow can You Go?

i started my piping journey a few months ago. at first, i always got a burning hot pipe. i tried going slower. i found cosmicfolklores epic thread about sipping. i learned about the breath method. i thought i had it figured out - couldnt have been further from the truth - when i had an old...

Learning different tobaccos / "Pure" Blends

When reading reviews about tobacco, i'm amazed by how well some people are able to divide the blended taste into its separate parts and tell minor ingredients distinctly apart. I would like to undertake a little learning in that direction. My plan is to find some good blends, that ideally only...
