    Elizabethan Match

No, I'd say it's probably one of the most aptly named blends for the flavor you're going to get. It's pretty musty, spicy, dark, and earthy. Sometimes the Virginia and Perique pop up and you get a little sweetness and dark fruit flavor; but mostly it tastes like dirt and mushrooms...in a good...

    Elizabethan Match

Also, I forgot to add Haunted Bookshop is a completely different blend; however it scratches the same itch as Elizabethan for me for some reason. I have no idea why, as the flavors are very different; it's burley based not Virginia. You might get a couple ounces in bulk and give it a shot.

    Elizabethan Match

I'm a fan of the STG Elizabethan as well as the sutliff match(very different flavors IMHO). For something a bit cheaper that might ring the same bells as the STG, you might save a few bucks buying the 8oz tins of GL Pease Stratford or Telegraph Hill, which are similar in cut and flavor...

***What Are You Smoking, February 2025?***

Smoking some Beck's Ol' Limey Bastard in this Comoy's sandblasted egg. Enjoying the rain and listening to The Corries.

Margate. Isn’t It the Cats Meow!

I like Margate but ...And so to Bed is my personal favorite of the lot. St. Ives is also really good, but it seems like a lot of people hate it.

    WTB/WTTF Dunhill/Peterson Standard Mixture 02/05/2025

I'm looking to round out my cellar and was wondering if anyone was looking to part with some Dunhill/Peterson Standard Mixture. For trade I have quite a large variety in the cellar so let me know if there's anything you're looking for in particular. Several GL Pease and Cornell and Diehl...

    Overcoming Latakia Burnout

I used to smoke mm965 pretty much every day, with the occasional Virginia or burley to keep things interesting. Lately I've been changing things up, now mostly enjoying aromatics and codgers during the day and stout Latakia at night. I also quit vaping, so I now smoke a pipe all throughout the...

Pipe Tobacco is no Good Anymore/Better Than Before

I miss the magic of the early days of my pipe smoking, before I knew how the sausage was made. There was something special about walking in to Tobacco Barn in OC and just going off the description on the tin or what the tobacconists had to say about a blend. Sometimes it was just the tin art...

    Pipe Smoking and Makin' Babies

I don't know, my Polish-Catholic grandfather smoked Prince Albert and drank vodka about 18 hours a day and had 11 kids so I think you should be alright. My wife asked me to cut down on tobacco and whisky when we got married because we were tight on funds, can't conctracept(Catholic) and it just...

Best Esoterica/Germain’s Blends I Should Buy?

I like Pembroke and And so to Bed fairly fresh so that the toppings and Latakia don't weaken much. A friend of mine let me try some 10 year old Dunbar and it was stellar.

Best Esoterica/Germain’s Blends I Should Buy?

I did what forum members on here told me to do and made friends with tobacconists locally and while traveling and now have a decent supply of the ones I like. I like Latakia, so I mainly go after Pembroke and And so to Bed while trying to leave the others for people who like them. Special...

The Greywoodie Show Episode 131: A conversation with Leonard Wortzel from STG

Very good show, definitely made me despise Leonard a bit less. I hope that he's right that this will be ultimately better for the pipe tobacco industry in the long run; but I'm still switching over to GL Pease and Gawith from STG...which he seemed to completely understand anyway.

WTTF: GL Pease Caravan and Key Largo 01/09/2025

Looking to build up my cellar of more GL Pease Tins I enjoy. I would prefer tins with 5+ years on them, but age isn't a big issue. For trade, I have lots of stuff in the cellar so DM me if there's anything you are looking for in particular. I have an 8 oz bag of Pembroke, several tins of...

    Just in from STG/MacBaren/Sutliff

That's a fair take, but since I heard the news I've acquired enough Match 965, Seattle Evening, Hood Canal, and Potlatch to last me several decades of smoking. If I do buy any blends going forward it will be Gaslight and Charing Cross. Probably Carolina red flake with Perique too when that comes...

    Just in from STG/MacBaren/Sutliff

Wow STG sucks. I'm just switching to GL Pease.

    WTT: Esoterica Pembroke 8oz 12/18/24

New unopened bag from this year's drop. I was wondering if anyone would like to trade for a bag of Brighton or Scarborough. I've never tried their straight Virginia blends and would like to give them a go.

    Thoughts On STG

I completely understand that there's no such thing as job security in this world. I've seen my mom and dad get completely screwed by corporate America as they've gotten older My wife and i have planned our careers and finances around that. I'm a bit outside of it as I'm studying to become a...
