    Howdy from Chicago!

Greetings! Lucky to be so close to Iwan Ries! I think you will find this place to be a fun and welcoming and very kind community.

    Rubbing Out Flakes.

I normally don't fold flakes as I don't have much luck with that method. I prefer to rub them out. Some like SG seem to like being quite dry and fully rubbed out, at least for me.

***What Are You Smoking, March 2024?***

Mostly enjoying bulk tobaccos now. I like the Sutliff BS match as a great value. It’s cool and very nice all around.

Who Has a Job He Actually Loves?

I do enjoy my job, but unfortunately it looks like the future is cloudy for us. We’ve been hit hard by cost increases and consolidation in the industry. With a family depending on you it’s a hard position to be in. Things are tough in the economy regardless of what you hear on tv in my opinion.

Premier League, Championship League, League One, etc.

Cool to see another Spurs fan here. I've been a fan since they first put the Premier League on TV in the US. My first memories are the last of Juande Ramos and then into Harry Redknapp. Became a fan that year, well and truly minted by that 4-4 thriller

When Did Petersons Switch To Round Tins

It seems as though I've seen tins of Dunhill Flake in square tins in the late 2010s.

    Pipe Tampers

Some really neat ideas here! I tend to use the built-in tool from my xikar lighter or a normal pipe tool.

    Tinbids Experiences?

Well, I had two bidders fight the price of my auction up to a price I would consider a very good one, and then the winner didn't pay. I gave him a week and had to just relist it. I guess we'll see what happens from here. Frustrating.

How Long Have You Smoked a Pipe?

    3-4 years I suppose?

    Tinbids Experiences?

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and experiences. I decided to list a few items on TinBids and I'll report back as to how the experience goes. Hopefully, well :)

My Tobacco Cellar and Pipe Cabinet

Nice collection! When should we all stop by?

    Tinbids Experiences?

Yes, there are definitely companies that operate in this way, as a shipping middle man for online retailers that don’t ship to your country.

    Tinbids Experiences?

That's interesting. I noticed those 8oz bags of Esoterica go for insane prices there.

    Tinbids Experiences?

Thanks. I have heard people say that many bidders are overseas and they often pay high prices, but it takes a long while to be paid out in those cases. I am not opposed to shipping to anyone who shares our hobby in principle, but I am also not sure about shipping to far corners of the world...

    Tinbids Experiences?

I believe that change of regulation was stayed for a year that was going to bring the limits down very low.

    Recovering from Insanity

I too am guilty of always trying to better-ify everything. Sometimes you've got it right and the best thing is just to relax and enjoy it!

Where to Draw the Line on Cellar Size?

Last year I calculated that I probably had more tins than I would ever smoke. All together over just a couple of years it became excessive, and when some financial concerns came knocking I reduced things down a ton. Now I am just keeping a small stock and will only buy to replace, or grab...

    Tinbids Experiences?

Have any of you bought or sold on TinBids? What have your experiences been like? Never bought or sold anything there. I'm curious about both buying and selling at that venue, no reason to trust or distrust it specifically but looking for reviews. Anyone had good luck or issues there?

Moving From English Blends to Pure Virginias

Newminster No. 400 is a good moderate one. I’ve also found that there can be quite a variety of tastes even in straight VAs, and that the darker or more red Virginia content there is the more flavor. Some like 507C benefit from age but Union Square is one that’s good right from the tin and is...
