The Role of Distinguished Lunt Pipes

I must say it. My Peterson 313, has become my most highly desired pipe when it’s time to go take a walk and enjoy a bowl. It’s light weight and effortless balance make it a favorite piece to enjoy on the move. What other pipes have proven superior in the annals of lunting as I am on the hunt...

    Pauls Aromatics

Question for those old hands. My recent shipment from Paul’s the tobacco seemed drier and with less of a topping (hardly any detectable across several blends) than I remember previously. Arrowhead was great and retained the moisture and topping I remembered but that was it. Anyone else had a...

    A Quiet Turning?

This is an anecdotal datapoint but I’m seeing more and more of my 30-40yo friends on FB with pics of them enjoying pipe tobacco. The much heralded death of this hobby may be postponed. Anybody else seeing things like this? Makes me wonder about industry numbers, and whether things are growing.

    Pauls Pipe Shop- Flint MI

If you haven’t tried Paul’s blends you really should IMO. Get those online orders or call ins ready for Monday. A recent news spot with Paul’s owner about construction affecting their foot traffic in the store. Support your local pipe ecosystem and the B&M network at large. If you haven’t...

Civil War vets and their pipes

Check out this photo of veterans of the 157th NY Infantry resting by their historical marker. Wonder what that dapper gentleman was enjoying in his pipe?

    Fifteen Minute Sweet Spot?

Is it just me or do blends generally get tastier after around 15 minutes in? I get a blast of flavor nuance at that point of the bowl where flavors develop that were not present earlier, and are often not present late in the bowl

    Zippo Butane Pipe Insert

Anybody used the newer soft flame butane pipe insert? Looking for an alternative that doesn’t impart a funky taste.

    WW2 Blends

Seeing pipes in old imagery both allies and axis, what were the blends that went to war? I remember my grandfather telling me US cigarettes or tobacco could get you anything you wanted after the war ended in Europe.

Getting the most out of SG Burley/Lat/VAs

I had a bowl of Bob’s Square cut today that was purchased in bulk from Watch City. It definitely has a smell in the jar, but is very uninspiring once put to match with very little taste (of anything). I’m smoking as cool as I can and retrohaling but not getting much. Is there any technique to...

Taste and Flavor for over 60s

Have any of you long term guys, or (Ahem…) AARP members noticed a decrease in any sensitivity of taste or flavor while enjoying pipe tobacco? Reading a bit today about how olfactory sensory neurons rapidly decrease as we age. Also, it seems like this phenomenon occurs quicker in men than...

    Peterson 999

My Peterson 313 is a nicely weighted and bent pipe perfect for a walk while clenched. Has anyone found the Peterson 999 (bent Rhodesian/john bull type) to be a good lunt pipe? I’ve got enough straight stems for enjoying while seated or stationary.

    Stomatitis nicotina

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stomatitis_nicotina Looking at my first P lip. Anyone have experience or thoughts about this temporary condition caused by heat/smoke interacting with tissues of the hard palate? Seems like a P lip directs the smoke right onto this area of the mouth.

    Aperitif: What happened?

With the advent of Peterson Dunhill mixtures, what killed the seemingly popular Aperitif? On tobacco reviews it appears to have been rated as high, or higher than other surviving Dunhill blend. Think there is a chance aperitif makes a encore in the future of this company’s offerings?

    Bob’s Chocolate Flake

how long has BCF been around? Is this a GH blend that has been around for hundreds of years or a more recent addition to the stable. Either way, it is truly a great blend for a fall day.

Vauen Filters in Petersons. Modding ideas?

IMO Vauen makes the best charcoal 9mm filter. Their filters however do not fit snugly in Peterson pipes. Is there a way to modify the filter or pipe to make it fit into a Peterson stem? Currently, a Peterson pipe with a Vauen filter allows the filter to blow fore and aft in the shank of the pipe.

    Presby Reformation

I had been on the forums looking for a better chocolate flake recently and had forgotten about the jarred for 6mo Presbyterian Reformation flake I had in the cellar. I didn’t think it was too wet coming out of the jar but I let half a slice dry out overnight. By morning, the flake was slightly...

    Peterson promo leather wall holder

I recently purchased a Peterson outside of the promo window for those snazzy leather 5 pipe holders that hang on a wall. If anyone has one they received in an order and they don’t want I would be interested in purchasing. SP is out and doesn’t have anymore.

    Chocolate Flakes of Yore

I have tried GH Chocolate flake, and it’s cousin Bobs Chocolate Flake. The former, was nary a trace of cocoa, and the latter….a very subtle grace of dark cocoa, intermittently. I would categorize them both as a Virginia flake with condimental Latakia. Is there a chocolate flake I’m missing or...
