More Inherited Pipes! I Need Help!

In reading about GBD pipes, I have seen reference to "army" or "Military" mounts, especially in relation to "Super Q" pipes. Is that simply a reference to having the metal on metal connection between the shank and the stem?

More Inherited Pipes! I Need Help!

Came across this today in my grandfather's things. It isn't a pipe, but it is pipe related. My grandfather was also a cartoonist and the people in his drawings (whether it was for his CHP colleagues or Navy colleagues) frequently were sporting pipes. This one was even more expressly pipe related!

More Inherited Pipes! I Need Help!

He was in the Naval Reserves most of his life. He started out on submarines, but eventually was part of a SWCC boat unit. In the first picture he is a CW03 (Chief Warrant Officer 03). He retired as a CW04. I don't know for SURE where the jeep picture was taken, but I suspect it was taken...

More Inherited Pipes! I Need Help!

Am I correct in my belief that this (large) set is of a slightly lower "quality" than the Preben Holms, etc. I first posted about in the other thread I made?

More Inherited Pipes! I Need Help!

Thanks! No condolences needed -- He passed away many years ago. My mom just got around to giving me the pipes. Since I have posted his pipes, I figure I might as post a couple of him smoking his pipes!

More Inherited Pipes! I Need Help!

AND finally (there are more, but they are obviously cheap/throw aways and two with the clever name of "The Pipe"): The one on the left (missing the stem) is labeled "Butz Choquin" and "A Metz Origins" Next is simply labeled "Golden Grain" on one side and "Imported Briar" on the other. Next is...

More Inherited Pipes! I Need Help!

NEXT up: First one on the left: "Coolmor" on one side and "Imported Briar" on the other. Next is "Amphora" "x-tra" and "734" Next is "Own Make" with three "Bs" in a diamond between "own" and "make" Next is "Custom Grain" and "Natural Grain" on one side and "Algerian Briar France" on the other...

NEXT up: The first one on the left is labeled "Wimbeldon" and "360S" The next one is labeled "Filtermaster" The next one is labeled something "Freeport" and "London, England" The next one is labeled "Hardcastle Executive" on the top and "831" and "Made in London England" on the bottom" The next...

More Inherited Pipes! I Need Help!

More "random" pipes: The left most is "Gresham Giants" on one side and "124" and "Made in London England" on the other. Next one is labeled "Jobey Band" on the top and "D81" on the bottom Next one is simply labeled "Dr. Donald" (in quotes) on one side and "Imported Briar" on the other. Next one...

More Inherited Pipes! I Need Help!

Ok, now we are out of the big groups of "related" pipes and on to ones that strike me as "similar" to each other in style. Starting from the left, the first 4 pipes have "diamond" shaped shanks. The left most one has the letters "KBB" in a clover leaf and reads "Filter Brush by Yello-Bole" and...

More Inherited Pipes! I Need Help!

Thanks, btp79! I don't smoke myself and my intention is not really to sell any (or at least, that was my intention before I found myself flooded with pipes!). I want to restore a few for sentimental reasons. I will definitely be doing that for the Preben Holms and some of the other Danish...

More Inherited Pipes! I Need Help!

Next up are pipes labeled "Mastercraft." The one on the left is labeled "Mastercraft" on the top and on the bottom reads "Imported Briar Italy" and either "1961" or "1981" "Originals" "Virgin" The next one over is "Mastercraft" and "Originals virgin" on one side and "Imported Briar Italy" The...

More Inherited Pipes! I Need Help!

(Note I just realized the forum flipped the images -- When I said a pipe was the "top" one, I meant to the left)

More Inherited Pipes! I Need Help!

Next are pipes labeled "Medico." The top one is simply "Medico" and "Imported Briar" on one side. The next one down is "Frank" and "Medico" and "Italian Briar" The next one down is "Medico" and "V.F.G." and "Imported Briar" The last one is "Medico" and "Apollo"

More Inherited Pipes! I Need Help!

Next are the pipes labeled "GBD" in some way. The left most one one is labeled "GBD" and "Super Q" on one side and "9436" along with a stylized "Made in London" stamp on the other side. The next one to the right is also labeled "GBD" and "Super Q" on one side, but has the number "335" and the...

More Inherited Pipes! I Need Help!

Next, this set are pipes labeled "Kaywoodie" and have little clubs on the stem: The top one reads "KAYWOODIE" and "Natural Burl" The next one down reads "KAYWOODIE" and "Natural Burl" on the bottom The next one down reads "KAYWOODIE" and "Standard" on one side and the number "04" on the other...

More Inherited Pipes! I Need Help!

Next. The first "group" of obviously related pipes I can see are these three "Ben Wade" marked ones. The top one is labeled "Ben Wade" and "Hand made in Denmark" on one side and "Majestic" "designer series" on the other side. The middle one is labeled "Ben Wade" and "Standard" and on the...

More Inherited Pipes! I Need Help!

So I have reached the end of the boxes that housed my grandfather's belongings (or at least the portion that came to me). I have found more pipes. A lot more. Like 40 more. Someone must have sorted them at some point, because these ones are primarily English. They also, to my untrained eye...

    Inherited Pipe Collection Questions

So I was going through more of my grandfather's things and the good news: I found two more pipes! The bad news, well, see for yourself: First pipe is another Preben Holm, listed as "Fancy" "100" and "C5." Unfortunately, the stem is broken off in the lower part of the pipe: The second pipe is...
