Luxury Bullseye Flake, 5 yrs old

I have several lbs of LNF put aside. Most of it over 5yrs old and some approaching 8-9 years. Fresh it is okay at best, but even a few months is a vast improvement. With a few years it is a sublime smoke and will probably be my "daily" smoke at some point.

    Devil Anse Pipes?

Moonshine Pipes (AKA Briarworks) make some Devil Anse shapes that I really like. I just haven't pulled the trigger yet. They also make a "Devil Dog" which is a Bulldog, but with Devil Anse proportions and the signature forward cant of the bowl. Pretty decent pricing too.

If you could only smoke one blend...

That's a very difficult question for me as I really like variety. But if I HAD to smoke only one blend, then it would probably something that offers more than just one dimension depending on the age. For me, that would probably be PS Luxury Navy Flake. I wouldn't necessarily call it my...

What Are You Drinking? December 2023

I've been drinking a lot of WhistlePig stuff lately, but that's only because they were given to me by the supplier. Tonight I'll probably drink some New Riff Single Barrel or one of the Four Roses Limiteds that I have cracked open. I'm taking a vacation day tomorrow and think I might crack...

    Dark Fired Kentucky

My current favorite DFK blend is Gawith & Hoggarth Dark Bird's Eye. It's a little smoky and a little sweet and ages pretty well. I buy it in bulk and portion it out for aging. Definitely an "end-of-the-night" type of blend for me. It can be pretty stout.

    In Defence of WAYS

I actually hadn't seen any negative posts about it, which is why I was so surprised. I just found it a little ridiculous that someone would complain about such thread on a forum that is specifically meant for such threads. I'm all for some good-natured ball-busting: I just had a chuckle a bit...

    Night Owls

I worked in restaurants and bars for many years in my 20s and my body got used to the routine. Even now that I have what is essentially an 8-5 job, I'm still up pretty late. My body just likes being awake at night. I also like it because my wife and kids are in bed, so if I want to watch...

    In Defence of WAYS

It takes special kind of person to get their knickers in a bunch because people enjoy posting what pipes and tobaccos they are currently smoking on a PIPE AND TOBACCO FORUM!!!! I mean, really?!?! You know you can scroll right past it, right? Just do that and post your complaint about the...

    Washington and Shipping Laws

I've shipped quite a bit of pipe tobacco out of WA. But only as gifts/trades. I've never had any issues, but then again, I've never labeled the boxes with "FRAGILE; AGED PIPE TOBACCO INSIDE". I know that TinBids will not allow you to list tobacco for sale if your address is a WA address...

    Blends by Setting

Morning: I don't usually smoke in the morning, but if I do it's something like Newminster 400 Navy or OGS Afternoon: If I do, it would usually be something like PS LNF or another Va/Per blend. Night: This is usually when I smoke and it varies tremendously according to my mood or what I'm...

    Real Perique?

Thanks. Regardless the specifics, I love the stuff and I love what it contributes to a blend. Kudos for those that are carrying the torch and keeping the process alive.

    Real Perique?

I was always under the impression that the main identifying attribute for "real" St. James Perique was not the fact that it was processed in St. James Parish, but the fact that the plants were grown in St. James Parish. That it was the leaves themselves that give St. James Perique its unique...

Who Has a Job He Actually Loves?

I've been with the same company (Wine & Spirits Distributor) for almost 22yrs in various positions. When I first started in my mid-twenties, it was a LOT of fun. I mean, how could it not? I was calling on the largest tourist attraction in the US (maybe the world at that time), and was getting...

    Morning Blends

For a Latakia Blend, I've enjoyed GLP Westminster in the morning with my coffee. One of my favorites is Orlik Golden Sliced in the morning. Especially if it has a little age on it. It goes really well with a good English Breakfast Tea, but it goes great with a light-medium roast coffee as well.

The Love of Sports or the Lack Thereof

I used to watch NFL football religiously before kids, but it got hard to devote that kind of time to watching a sport. It USED to be a couple of games on Sunday (that were televised) and a Monday night game. Now it's Thursday night, all day Sunday, Sunday night and Monday night. And that is...

    What Might You Add?

If it's taste or body that you're looking to "bulk up", then I second the suggestion to add just a touch of Dark Fired KY. If it's nicotine, and you're wanting to keep the flavor as close to original as possible, then I would suggest a little White Burley. It might add a touch of nuttiness to...

    Changey Mind

McClelland had a house style that was unique to them that so far no other house has been able to replicate. Does that make it better or worse than any other blender with a unique house style for their VAs? No. Just makes them different. Some people like whiskies made by Jim Beam. Some like...

What Pipe would You Like to have Back? Why?

I've gotten rid of a lot of pipes over the years and I really haven't regretted selling or giving away any of them. But if I had to choose, I would say it would be an older Ascorti New Dear KS Egg that was in a natural finish and had a pretty deep bend in the stem. It was a little big for my...

    1792, WHG, What's Next?

Sam Gawith St James Flake is favorite of mine, and GH Best Brown #2 makes up a major portion of my cellar.

    2014 GLP Quiet Nights

Quiet Nights is one of my favorite blends, and one of my favorite blends to age. The creaminess and heightened sweetness is one of the hallmarks of age on this one. The Latakia is there, but much more integrated and the Orientals blend nicely with the Virginias to create a nuanced but complex...
