    Bad Coffee?

Memorable bad coffee: Instant coffee out of the old coffee vending machines. Choosing the "whitener" option only made it worse. Almost all gas stations back when robusto coffee was brewed with a Brunn into a glass carafe on a burner. Arabica coffee brewed into the thermal carafes is so much...

    Orlik Byford capillary collector

Looks like it would be hard to keep clean. I would speculate that that was its Achilles heel, and why the system hasn't survived to date.

The New Tariffs and Buying Abroad

IRC, it used to be safer to use DHL over UPS when it came to getting billed improper duties. But maybe with the new situation UPS or some orher carrier is better. That or finding vendors that cover the tax on thier end, so that the shipper can't extort more money out of us.

The New Tariffs and Buying Abroad

This post wasn't meant to commiserate on tariffs or get political. It was meant to find out what others in the US were seeing on their transactions. If there are vendors or carriers that have less fees, I would like to know about it.

The New Tariffs and Buying Abroad

It was an Italian made pipe. With the tariff/fee it was still cheaper than buying the same pipe from a US vendor.

The New Tariffs and Buying Abroad

I'm in the US and decided to roll the dice for the first time after the end of the de minimis rule. Got a pipe from Bollito for $ 280 plus $12 shipping through DHL. Here is what I got charged for a tariff plus fees two days later: I paid the extra the same day I got the notice, but this...

Pipe Blend Ponderings by a Grumpy Old Man Who Doesn't Like Anything

Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see any Dan aromatics on your list. They're not cheap, but something like Devil's Holiday might be your huckleberry. I am also a big fan of Black Velvet. I'd argue that when it comes to aros, Dan is the best manufacturer out there, with Gawith a close second.

Dunhill Dark Aged Flake on C-bids?

When the FDA deeming regs first came out, to beat the deadline, Dunhill released two or three new blends (dark flake, ye olde signe, and possibly one other) back in 2016. Dunhill then stopped putting it's name on pipe tobacco, and the rights were sold to Petersen, about a year later. Petersen...

    So Much Information Everywhere, Yet..

Oh boy. Yeah, way to derail the thread. While the first paragraph of that article is probably more true than not (it's the brainiest of humans that get carried away with new movements), the rest of the article leaves out a lot of historical context. Such is the nature of too much information...

    Gonna Cut My Cane

If you want to exact some level catharsis against the ennui of existence, may I suggest the following farm implement be employed selectively to a portion of the cull. https://machetespecialists.com/product/hansa-24-inch-yegua-tres-canales-machete/

    Bengal Slices

it has been a number of years since I had SToP's Bengal Slices. I remember liking it quite a bit.. As far as GLP alternatives, try Quiet Nights, Westminister, and Gaslight Plug.

    My Favorite Tamper

I am a big fan of most all the 8deco tamper designs. The lowly bamboo version might be one of the best as far as functionality goes. The metal end is also good for more aggressive removal of cake and the bamboo end for less aggressive removal of tobacco bits stuck to the side of the bowl. The...

I'm also in the same boat. Even a fishtail can cause roof discomfort while my tongue remains happy as a clam.

Is He a Genuine Moron or Just Pretending?

If YouTube would just pull all videos with thumbnails that have faces on them, much of the dreck could be eliminated. That's always a surefire way to tell that the video content is worthless. Not going to get started on what I think in general of the "YTPCs", other than to say that 99% of it...

Samuel Gawith - Cannon Plug Review

Not to be confrontational, but there is no rose geranium in cannon plug, unless it has accidentally been cross contaminated. It's of the fruity/melon family of Gawith blends (Ennerdale, Grousemoor, Glengarry). Grasmere, Kendal flake, Bosun plug, Conniston plug are the floral blends with...

    Mold. Crazy Stuff.

Neighbors down the street from us, that my wife is friends with, had a weird 5 to 6 year family mystery chronic illness that finally has started to resolve itself. They found mold hidden under the floor in the bathroom, and since getting it got taken care of, there has been a miraculous...

    Mold. Crazy Stuff.

Oh, I'm well aware of the modern myths around objectivity (e.g. scientism). Here's another wiki on the hopelessness of human objectivity: Cognitive bias - Wikipedia - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_bias I am also a fan of Kierkegaard, and place more value in my hard-earned...

    Mold. Crazy Stuff.

With the right combination of words, one can still find weird stuff on the internet. It used to be easier before SEO assholes and big tech screwed it all up. I remember once, a crazy ride down the intertubes reading about the dark side of kundalini awakening (cliff notes, proceed at your own...

    Thoughts On Oil Changes

Oil type and oil change interval debates are completely absurd. The fact that the site Bobistheoilguy.com exists purely for this very thing blows my mind. The amount of angst over oil must come from some sort of collective trauma. Maybe it's that unless one is wasting money on used oil...
