***What Are You Smoking, September 2024?***

Out enjoying a bowl of tobacco after preparing supper for my Mrs. Ravenwood Midnight Dreary in the quasi-Meer pipe that once belonged to my late pipe smoking mentor, Rusty. A little bit of 16-yr-old Aberfeldy in the glass with a wee drop of water or two. Rusty had this to say about the two...

***What Are You Smoking, September 2024?***

Made up a parfait of Sutfliff “Taste of Spring” (aromatic) with some Ravenwood‘s “Midnight Dreary” (Syrian blend). Quite delicious. Pipe is W.Ø. Larsen “Master Block” which was finished by Tom Eltang in his studios for the Danish Pipe Shop. This pipe was one of the original pipes crafted by...

What Cigar are You Smoking? 2024

Enjoying some Cornell & Diehl Bayou Nights in this Savinelli Estella. The original stem had the ‘dragon’ logo on it. I sent it in to Savinelli to have them fashion a replacement stem as the previous owner had burned his drill bit inside the stem trying to open it up. I still have the stem and...

    Show Us Your Radice Pipes

I imagine the seller used a buffer to get it nice and shiny and I have that can of spray Briar Wipe that I put on a Jay cloth and keep my pipes looking nice with. It does a good job.

    Show Us Your Radice Pipes

This one I purchased from that eBay seller who props his pipes on a piece of driftwood. You know the one. The annual sales stemming from that hunk of sea wood must be about the same as the GDP of any small country! (I jest, of course). I fell in love with the damn shank on this pipe. It’s...

***What Are You Smoking, August 2024?***

A bowl of Margate jarred from 2006 in the Radice Rind. I fell in love with the spiral shank on this pipe. It was bought a while ago from R.D. Field’s collection of pipes.

Messing Around With an English Blend

The quintessential English blend has Latakia at the forefront with supporting leaf alongside it, in my opinion. Va’s of various sort, with some Oriental leaf and Perique for a slight, and I mean slight, accent on the blend.

Messing Around With an English Blend

I’m sadly lacking in some dark Virginia, or stoved Virginia - that would be in the original trial. I was merely improvising with something as close as I could think that would, at the same time, afford the mixture a certain ‘je ne sais quoi’ to the blend. It worked out well.

Question on Brigham Extra Absorbent Pipe Cleaners

Good question. I opened up a package of ‘tapered’ cleaners and I find I have to mostly start with the thinner end to get through some of my pipe stems. At times, the thick end can initiate its way through head first but not always.
