    Hobbit Weed is No More

Just was at Tewksbury in Denver, after 43yrs, they won't be selling Hobbit Weed (or any other hockey se blends) due to the new regulations. It's a shame. Such a great shop and such an iconic blend.

Paging Mr. Death Metal Re: Royal Yacht

I've been trying to figure out what is best in my Morta pipe. You guessed it. RY. Actually everything is good in a Morta in the sense that the Morta is very very nuetral. Almost like music in an anechoic chamber vs a concert hall. The Yacht really shines though! I thought you might like to do...

    The Size of a Flake

Generally I like to cube cut my flakes, dry the cubes as needed, and gravity feed with a little packing pressure at the top. As described, this is typically about 75-80% of one flake. I don't mind the bit leftover but I'm wondering if flakes are designed to be a standard? In other words, does...

    Question About Jack Knife Plug

Just opened my first tin. The darker tobacco, presumed to be the Kentucky, is extremely tough. Tough to cut through and tough to break up the longer strands. Is this normal? Magical? I'm just drying a little and will soon know I guess.

IM Corona Tip For Flint Types

Having trouble getting a light? Unload the spring on the flint and jiggle it. It tends to get burnished and needs a fresh edge. I realize this may be very obvious to some of you!

    Falcon and Meerschuam Question

Just ordered a Falcon. Wanted to try one. I'm thinking I would like to try a Meerschuam bowl with this. What care should be taken in handling the warm Meerschuam bowl when cleaning the humidome? It seems sufficiently different than a standard meer with a shank and stem.

Does the Mixing of a Blend Drive You Crazy?

Just got some 4th Generation 1982. Pretty good stuff and I will certainly finish the tin. Course cut mix of black cav, golden va, some burley, and bits of navy flake. Anyway, when I set a pile out to dry, the varieties separate a fair bit. At least you can tell because the colors and textures...

    Blends You Could Identify Blind

I am sure I could identify a small handful of blends by smell. I'm not sure I could pick them out by smoking. I could get close in family but not specifically. Side by side I could pick them out in multiple choice, I think. Any blends you know you know?

    Plum Pudding

Just opened a tin for the new year! My resolution (until tomorrow) is to only have one tin opened at a time! How much do you break up the pudding? Little cubes? Dust?

    A Pleasant Local Surprise

Today at 5:30am, I discovered that my gym was closed (xmas eve special hours). I went over to the grocery store and on a whim decided to check if they sold pipe tobacco. I always buy at a B&M or online. Well they had Carter Hall for $3.19 a pouch. I bought 3 because why not? P&C has had it back...

Rub And Dry? Or Dry And Rub?

For flakes that are fresh and still rubbery, rubbing can produce strands. When dry, they can crumble too much. Which do you all prefer?

    Ultimate Virginia Flake Pipe?

Any recommendations? Many here say tall and narrow. Can you point me at something specific? Preferably around $200 or less! Thanks!

    You Did Not Tell Me...

How good Missisippi River is! I've been through a few Plum Puddings and always though the River would be a lighter version. Duh, it's a Virginia! Love it!

    Dark Star Advice

I just ordered two 3.5oz tins. It sounds perfect, as I like sweet Virginias. I will be opening one for sure. Should I cellar the other and give some time or open both and keep it in a jar. I'll probably go through slowly in either case. Also I'm easily bit! Any tips for taming the Dark Star monster?

    Buying GQ Tobacco in America

Fell in love with an Askwith Kake sample. Can we buy from GQ in England direct? Are there any third party distributors?

Anyone Store Differnt Flakes in the Same Jar?

On purpose? They stand so nicely in the jars that it seems they good benefit each other. Anyway I'm trying dunhill flakes next to some golden slices. It seems the dunhills could use a little brightening and the goldens could use some depth.

Pulling the Trigger on an IM Corona

I have a Dupont ligne 2 I got cheap and refurbished with a pipe tip. Great tool but the gas cartridges are expensive and have to be ordered. IM corona seems like almost all the quality of dupont and takes regular (high quality) butane. I like the old school old boy but the knock offs I had...

How Old is the Briar in our Pipes?

Just got my Morta pipe and have been pondering what the world was like a few thousand years ago. Did an ancestor ever touch the tree? It's possible. But how old is Briar? Not just the post harvest curing, shipping and construction, but how long do the trees grow before being dug up? Are we...

    My New Morta Pipe

On its way from Chris Askwith. What should I use for its maiden voyage?

Is Yachtmaster an Aromatic or a Virginian?

It matters not at all. But if it is an aromatic it's my favorite aromatic. If it's a Virginian it's my favorite Virginian. In either case it can be a little powerful for a one bowl a day smoker. I'm interested because I'm still learning.
