    Shoe repairs

Hello I have a pair of shoes that I wear everyday. But the sole is now wearing very thin. Is there some sort of patch I can stick on underneath to give my shoes a few more months? i.e Something cheap. I don't want to buy new shoes just yet (Christmas is a long way off), neither can these...

    I'm Still Here

Hello I am still here. I've been without wi-fi and phoneline since storm Darragh which hit Wales on the 6th of December. Engineers are on the case, but there have been so many trees downed by the wind, its taking ages for them to fix. I can only get wi-fi to do my job etc in other locations.

    Room Heater

Following the terrible storm we had on the western side of the UK last weekend, I am still without phone or wifi at home. Power is back thankfully, though my heating is a bit hit and miss until I get a new control panel. Do any of you have a suggestion for a room heater that does not require...

    My Friends Technique

I have a friend who smokes cigarettes. This week I persuaded him to dig out his old pipe and try that for a change. So he did. He had a little bent pipe. Some overly dry Presbyterian mixture. And proceeded to smoke it. Now I've been lurking here long enough to understand something about...

    Interesting Pipe Smokers

Perhaps this could be a new thread. This is Sir Thomas Sopwith with his wife. In his youth he tried ballooning, motor racing and ice skating. Sir Thomas learned to fly in 1910. In 1912 he set up the Sopwith Aviation company and in the first world war the company produced many famous fighter...

    Today's Hike - Thread

It might be nice to post pictures of interesting or pretty places where we have hiked. This is my effort from today. We walked from Porthgain to Abereiddi (Wales). Then visited the UK's smallest city, St David's and went to see the cathedral and then went for Fish and Chips. Porthgain used...

    Boating Woes

Had a boat incident this morning. Mast and sails came down. Here I am waiting for rescue. I was winning the race as well. Typical

    Draught Hole?

What are the pros and cons of different size draught holes? People seem to to have their preferences. I'm guessing a narrow hole means sucking harder and the greater rush of air has something to do with the combustion of the tobacco.

    Slowest Wifi Speed

Who has the slowest wifi speed? Where I am in Wales, this is what I have. Its better than clockwork, but not by much. Can anyone beat this low?

    Best Star Trek Film

What is the best Star Trek Film? I am going to say Star Trek 2 The Wrath of Khan. I like the space battles. Kahn is great. The music is amazing. I've seen it so many times. I prefer the clean, clinical look of the Enterprise A interiors of Star Trek 6 The Undiscovered Country, and that was...

    P38 Lightning "Marge" Found

I was careful not to use the word "Bong" in the title. I don't want to be banned. Richard Bong. America's top scoring ace of WW2 was famous for flying a Lockheed P38 Lightning named Marge (named after his girlfriend whom he later married). Richard Bong was sadly lost testing the P80 Shooting...

    Carrington Event

Some of us here might have heard of the Carrington event of 1859 which played havoc with the electric telegraph. And the warning was that such an event again would cause major disaster on earth as we are now so dependent on electrical devices. The aurora last weekend was at level 5 (out of 5)...

    B & M

After being on this site for a reasonable amount of time. Today it just dawned on me what B&M means. Bricks and Mortar. All this time I've been thinking it was an American tobacco selling version of this shop we have in the UK

    Curry Half and Half

Just seen a chef on telly say that Curry half and half is a Welsh thing, but the Welsh don't realise that the dish is unique to them. As a Welshman and a fan of Chicken curry half and half (half chips, half rice), I have to admit that I thought it was consumed everywhere. So I just want to ask...

    Topsy Turvy Pipe

Saw this in an antique shop today. Do you smoke it with the bowl the right way round and the stem upside down. Or with the stem the right way round and the bowl upside down? The former I'm guessing. But you would look silly. Oh, and I'm pretty sure there was a pipe smoker in the shop. An...
