Colt .45
Checotah, I do have a Marlin in .45 Colt. Might have to look into that... I have a Norinco 97 and a Colt 1911 100th anniversary that I can't get enough of. Nice stable BTW, my .45 addiction tends more to the ACP variety.- effektor

Are Pipe Smokers Hat People?
Baseball cap unless I'm camping or working in the yard. I'm reaching the age where I can wear other types of hats without people making assumptions about my personality, so that might change. :lol:- effektor

Colt .45
Seems like the only Colts that ever come up for sale around here are 6"+ bbl. I would love a 4" .45 or .357 or a snub .38. I'll probably end up settling for a Smith in .45 to go with my Marlin lever gun. I prefer my single actions to be auto loaders. :-)- effektor

The Mossberg has a steel bolt, like the 870. The receiver is alloy, but this isn't an issue with durability since the bolt locks to the barrel and the pressure is contained there. I'm in the carbine camp when it comes to home defense but if you really want a shotgun, all of the big 3 are great. I had a 590 but sold it because I never shot it and as I mentioned, prefer a rifle for home defense. It was rugged and reliable but I have had some ammo that the brass swelled...- effektor

You could try Sugru, a hand moldable silicon putty. There is even a home made version made from corn starch and silicon sealant. Those leather rests are neat, I might make a few for around the house.- effektor

How do I Ensure a Sweet Smoke
I use neutral spirits to clean my pipes, so I'm not familiar with the effects the flavoring has. I am however familiar with Aguardiente and can see where it might impart a bitter taste! If that left the pipe tasting sweet, anything should. :D- effektor
