When You Like Presbyterian Mixture But You’re Not Reformed

I used to live there. Ok, maybe not, but every small town in Minnesota is a little bit Lake Wobegon. And I actually did perform on Prairie Home Companion back in college!

When You Like Presbyterian Mixture But You’re Not Reformed

Just to obfuscate a little more, I should point out that while the “reformed” label is indeed because of the reformation, not all mainline Protestants refer to themselves as “reformed”. The reformed tradition grew out of the teachings of the “other” great reformer, John Calvin, so generally...

    How Much Do You Smoke?

Anywhere from 1 to 5 bowls a day, but usually 2-3. I'd recommend getting at least one more pipe, to allow your briar to rest. MM Cobs are a great, and economical, solution to this problem. However, with 1-2 bowls a day, as long as you let the briar cool in between and give it a good...

    Cars

First car: 1996 BMW 318i purchased used in 2001. It was pretty slow for a BMW but cornered like it was on rails. The e36 BMW series was one of the best handling cars ever produced. Since then: 1999 Saab 9-3 5 door that was killed by a hailstorm in 2006. 2002 Volvo S60 2002 Saab 9-3...

    Preferred Pipe Shape

I have 25ish pipes, briar, cobs and a meerschaum, and 10 of the 25 are either straight or bent billiards or from that family of shapes (1 lovat and 1 Canadian), so apparently I like the billiard shape. I've collected these over the past 18 months or so, generally by buying estates that appeal...

    What's for Breakfast?

I have fruit with whole milk yogurt almost every day for breakfast, along with a big cup of coffee. For the first 39 years of my life, I rarely ate breakfast, and most of the time, I slept as long as I possibly could, usually grabbing a granola bar or something similar as I jetted out the...

    The Flake Haul

Interesting report. I found Bengal Slices and PP to be pretty similar blends. If you’re looking for a sweet flake, Orlik Golden Slices, MacBaren Navy Flake, and MacBaren mixture flake might fit the bill.

Windjammer In A Brand New Vauen Pipe

Nice review! I tried this for the first time last night and it’s a really tasty blend. I also think it will age wonderfully.

    Morgan Bones Pipes

These are good pipes and priced very well. The finishing is about what you’d expect for 40-50 bucks but they seem to be more consistent than many other pipes in that price bracket. Chris has done a good job marketing these and creating some hype around them. I have two. One, a fully bent...

Does Bamboo Color As It Ages?

I have a Tsuge Tokyo series sandblast Bamboo, and I agree. Beautiful pipe, and great smoker as well! Picked it up pretty much unsmoked off the 'Bay for a great price. I feel like Tsuge doesn't get enough love from the forums. They make some really nice pipes, even outside the Ikebana series.

    Canadian Style Pro And Con

No kidding! I have a few pipes I picked up in the past year that just don't do it for me anymore since I started clenching more. One, an OMS Cherrywood poker, is a great smoker, but the stem and button are so thick that it feels like a toy in my mouth. Just like with goldilocks and the...

Does Bamboo Color As It Ages?

One of my favorite things about a Bamboo shank is the way it yellows and ages with time. My first pipe has a bamboo shank (A Stanwell Bamboo) and I really love the patina that has developed over the past 12 years I've owned the pipe.

    Nausea

This right here. I find that having just a little bit of something sweet (beverage or snack) goes a long way towards alleviating any unwanted effects of vitamin N.

Orlik Racing Green on Sale at P&C

I picked up a tin of this at a local B and M a year ago, for no other reason than it had been sitting on the shelf for 6 years and had some age on it. It's ok. A mildly fruity aro with a bit of a tendency to bite. I had a few bowls at the time, but it's basically been sitting in the jar...

    Canadian Style Pro And Con

I've picked up my first two Canadian style pipes in the past couple of months, first a Castello shape 75 Lovat, and now a Ben Wade with an oval shank. I really like both pipes, and they're both very lightweight, so they clench easily. I'm also a big fan of the oval shank for clenching, as it...

***What Are You Smoking, March 2021?***

Getting to know GL Pease's Windjammer in a Ben Wade 70s era Lunar Blast I just bought off of @BROBS. Good stuff! Glad I bought two tins, and I'll be stocking up at some point. It should age wonderfully!

Trustworthy Tobacco Review Co: Briar Fox

So, the other day I was wondering when we might see our next review from TTR. Glad to see it! Great stuff! Reminded me of my teenage years, after visiting the local Inspector Gadget lookalike drug dealer, with his pointy little ears ,mischievous grin, and well blended Marijuana flakes...
