    Best Brown Flake

I've got some Best Brown Flake that I've had for about 3 years. The sugars have kind of seeped to the surface and one might confuse it for mold. It's very mellow and seems to have more character than I remember it having when it was brand new. I didn't store it in a jar until recently, just the...

    Sterling Tobacco Samples...

When I sent the e-mail and included my information under "blend usually smoked", I said #2015 or about any other non-aromatic. I guess that was reason enough to have the Tavern blend sent, which by the sound of it, I don't mind one bit.

    Sterling Tobacco Samples...

There is a company called Sterling Tobacco that is offering samples. I heard of them and the offer through another forum. There are no reviews on tobaccoreviews.com. Sterling Website I contacted the owner by e-mail with the requisite information yesterday which was returned with a very cordial...

Since it's his money, this Mastro de Paja should do nicely. It weighs in at $112.50 and is brand spankin' new. The other pipes I like come in at $2 over the limit.

March 2010 - What are you smoking?

Cob Plug is Sam Gawith's 1792 in a brick. It's a pretty stout tobacco. http://www.marscigars.com/samuelgawith-plugs.aspx I cut it into widths of a broken flake blend like #2015 and rub it out. There's a description at the bottom of the link about preparation that I might try.

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed how high smokingpipes.com rates the condition of their estate pipes? It's pretty optimistic sometimes. That rim is too messed up to be rating a 4.7 out of 5. Beautiful pipe though.

Bytor, That is a sharp pipe, I don't think I've seen any HCA's that weren't. I do wonder though, does it gurgle with the longer stem?

If this health care bill passes

If that would exempt me from the mandatory coverage, I'll take it.

    Why Did You Start?

My story is similar to Jonesing's. I've been into RYO for a few years and it opened my eyes to high quality tobaccos. It seemed insane not to start enjoying a pipe after I knew I wasn't limited to cavendish or cherry. I kind of went through phases where I wouldn't smoke a bowl for a couple weeks...

March 2010 - What are you smoking?

About to smoke some Best Brown Flake in a MM. This will be the 2nd time smoking this pipe. I've taken the stem from an unfiltered Big Ben bent Dublin and stuck it into the MM and the tenon fits perfectly. A dry draw seems much better now and provides that little bit of restricted air flow that...

Good point about the shape. I think this Neerup over a smokingpipes.com is pretty slick:

If you're finding yourself becoming a clencher, the 268. For a longer smoke, definitely the 120. Either one would probably be a good flake pipe.

Hope they keep stocking Tsuges by the time I can order one! I want a billiard. They'll all be gone by midnight.

Glengarry Flake in a Baronet Bruyere. An okay tobacco, but I'm not upset that this is the last bowl.

    English Blend Advice

Another nice English is Miner's Blend from Mars Cigars. I got a sample with an order and plan to buy a pound or at least 8oz. next time.

    What are You Reading?

"Keys to Drawing" by Bert Dodson. Used to draw and sketch a lot and checked this out from the library, thinking it might be time to try it again.

March 2010 - What are you smoking?

I'm not quite sure what to make of it. Different, to say the least. It was pretty neat seeing the condensation form in the stem and that offered some perspective. It's chambered for a filter and is the first time I've ever wondered if the draft was a little too wide. I also reckon that this...
