Good afternoon. Enjoying some 2021 Cringle Flake in a Briarworks r/pipetobacco pipe of the year 2017.

    Thoughts on Smoking Indoors

I've been granted permission to smoke indoors on odd occasions by the lady of the house. It's nice, but I prefer to smoke outside on the balcony when the weather is suitable. Feels good.

Tell Me about Sutliff Match Victorian

I highly endorse it. It's a solid VaPer and it's ridiculously cheap. I even prefer it to Elizabethan Mixture, which has the habit of tasting a bit too green for me. I don't smoke it all the time but if I had to, I would.

Smoking Cringle Flake '21 in a Stanwell 40th Jubilee bulldog. Using a 9mm metal Tsuge Kulu filter to offset the tongue burn/bite that accompanies this blend. Great bit of kit.

Great pipes! I love that rhodesian. It's much more conventional than I see a lot from Craig. Very classic. Always good to have a birth year too. Real icing on the cake.

Tonight I am having my after dinner smoke be HU Makhuwa in this delightful Tsuge Topper. This is my first Japanese pipe and I am very pleased with it. I was toying with purchasing a Dunhill Ruby Bark but then saw this and couldn't resist. Gorgeous ring grain sandblast. Tall bowl, great for...

    Sandblasted pipe taste different?

I have a friend that says Dunhill Shell Briars taste different to other pipes, to the point where he won't smoke an SB. Other sandblasts, I don't know.

    Best Light Weight Pipes?

I second the Musico, Bones, and Briarworks suggestions. Either that or look for a group 2 pipe - good size, and usually under 30 grams. I personally recently bought one of the new Tsuge Topper pieces. It weighs 26 grams and still has a tall, perfectly flake-suited bowl. I love it.

A Question For You Ebay Sellers...

It could simply be TAD followed by a pang of regret, but I wouldn't put it past ebay to come up with some funny business. Insanely greedy company, as evidenced by their fee hike and global shipping programme, which is extortionately priced.

What are You Reading as You Smoke?

I wish, haha. It's a bit of an industry secret but the higher you climb the academic ladder, the more mistakes you're allowed to make, because there are more people (like me, the lowly copy editor) there to correct things for you. The paper is very good - the research is current, the methodology...

That's odd, but either way, it's a hell of a pipe. I'm jealous (but then again I'm jealous for all of the pipes in this thread). It's good to meet more ashton-heads. It seems only recently that people are getting clued in to just how good they are.

***What are You Smoking, April 2022?***

HU Nashville County in a Ropp Vintage. Took me a while to become accustomed to this tobacco and this pipe, but now they are both regulars in my rotation. Nashville County has supplanted Haunted Bookshop as my go-to tobacco when I don't have a clear idea of what I'd like to smoke (but I know that...
