What a masterpiece- my first good pipe

Found this slightly used Aaron Beck Freehand on the Briar Blues site recently. Aaron was a carver from Queens NY and passed away back in 1984. It is a large pipe with a .90 inch diameter bowl, and a 2 1/4" depth. I tried it out tonite, unfortunately in a 100% humidity downpour in 45 degree...

One last smoke- which pipe + which blend

You've been told you have x number of hours to live, you've taken care of everything else, and now it's just down to one last bowl of tobacco. So what pipe do you choose and what blend ? No double listings , just one blend.........Lawrence will pick 1Q in his Cavicchi volcano

    The art of Tamping

Well, it seems as if I am a poor student of the tamping process, as about 50% of the time I tamp the pipe, it goes out. I thought that is was mandatory to inhale while you are tamping...which I do, but that isn't always successful. I watch video's of guys that seem to exert firm pressure and...

Anyone familiar with this stamping? That is all that is stamped on the side.... I just bought this on FleaBay, it might be my first good pipe, or may be a stinker. 8O

    Flavor Orgasm only last 10-20 Puff's ?

I have been experiencing something lately that I need an answer for. When lighting up, as in a recent episode with "Beacon Extra", there is a rush of intense flavor, totally void of any burnt ash/bowl residue/nastiness, that gives me a brief olfactory Orgasm. It's a quick glimpse of pure...

I tried some Hearth & Home tobacco from the box pass last night, which was called, "Daybreak" which is described as an English blend. I did a search on here but didn't find a dedicated English blend thread. So list your favorite English and if possible explain why it is.

    Great Photos Thread

In the last dozen years, we've switched to member's photos, tweaked or not. Back story or not. -jpmcw Sunday, December 17, 2023 Thought I'd post up some of the photos I've collected on the web...some are obviously Photoshopped, some not. I'm just tired of reading text.

    How many blends are there?

Ok, being new to the hobby, does anyone have a listing of all the blends, and companies that make tins etc., like in a spreadsheet form? I was wanting to get a sheet with all the different ones on it so that I could check each one off as I get to sample it and use it as an inventory sheet, or...

    Bowl temperature/construction question

I think I have the answer to my question, ( and yes, I did a search for it ) but on my Quiet Comrade pipe, the outside of the bowl gets pretty dag gone hot to hold at about the 20 minute mark, is it just because it is a low mass design? I assume that I need to look at getting one of those sweet...

My antique pipe rack restoration project

Thought I'd post up some pics of the restoration of an antique pipe rack I got on Ebay last week. There was a very similar 6 pipe rack that had the documentation with it and it was built in 1880...this one looks just like it inside and out, but holds 8 pipes. It was naturally a little smaller...

First Pipe Smoke in 33 years

After a tension filled weekend ( wife and I had a major blowout ), which was caused by me..naturally, she left again for the airport on another business trip. I guess I've been a real bear to live with recently, as I tend to keep all my frustrations with life harbored inside, but when I do...

    The Ultimate Vanilla Pipe Tobacco?

I am just learning about the different flavorings so bear with this newbie. I read where Captain Black White is basically a vanilla flavored product. I did do a search on here and came up with a post that showed a tin of Dan Tobacco called " Sweet Vanilla Honeydew". So give me your input on...

Looking 4 Pipe & Tobacco magazine back issues

Does anyone have a complete set of P&T magazines they would want to sell? The complete set on Ebay is skyrocketing as I write this. I've never looked at an issue, so I don't know if I want to end up spending the 200.00 or so that the auction will max out at.

Identify this Vintage Humidor for me

The humidor in the picture on the LH side has an unusual gold device on top of it. Can anyone ID this for me? There is also a nice single pipe display stand on the RH side.
