    Questions for Leonardw

I've been a pipe hobbyist since 2011, when I bought my first pipe and a few ounces of tobacco. While I enjoy the hobby, it's just a hobby for me. I only know a small fraction about the industry while others are avid smokers and have a vast knowledge of the industry. It amazes me how much...

Book Author Ben Rapaport on Radio Show of December 17, 2024

I have a copy of his "Collecting Antique Meerschaum Pipes," and it's a great book. I look forward to listening to this interview.

    Ah, That McClellands Smell

Currently smoking some 2017 Christmas Cheer. It will be a sad day when I'm out of it, so I smoke it sparingly. As for comparisons with Sutliff. No there is nothing that matches with McClelland. McClelland 5100 Red Cake was one of my favorite blends; while Sutliff 515RC-1 isn't a match...

Thriving in the Upcoming Tobacco Apocalypse

If you're ever able to go there, it's definitely worth a visit. It's been remodeled twice over the past 10 years, and it's a very nice lounge. Pricing is pretty good too since it's on reservation land. The last time I was there all the SPC blends available were also available online. I've...

    Ah, That McClellands Smell

I too miss that smell, and thankfully I still have some Christmas Cheer along with a few other McClelland blends left in my cellar. This time a year I like to enjoy a few bowls of Christmas Cheer, and appreciate each bowl I smoke.

Thriving in the Upcoming Tobacco Apocalypse

82nd Ave Tobacco and Pipe is my go to shop when I go to Portland. They have a solid selection at good prices. Much better than the prices at Rich's Cigar Store. Rich's is too expensive, and the last time I was there, their customer service was terrible. I was treated like a criminal, and they...

Thriving in the Upcoming Tobacco Apocalypse

You could also stop in at Smokey Joe's in Fife. The cigar lounge there is home to the Seattle Pipe Club, and they carry a selection of SPC blends. That's a much shorter trip than driving up to Poulsbo. I too live in WA State, but I'm still able to order online from select vendors at a good...

    How Cold Is Too Cold?

Since the family and I were displaced due to a pipe bursting, and both bathrooms being gutted for remodel; I definitely appreciate my shop (where I regularly smoke) a whole lot more. I've sat on the porch of our AirBnB a couple times with a pipe or cigar, with a heater running at my feet, and...

    Storing Tobacco In Zip Locks

Everything in my cellar is either in it's original tin, or in a mason jar; however, I do store some tobacco in plastic bags. My pipe case that I take on the go has tobacco in plastic baggies. Depending on the tobacco, some keep better than others. I don't use the baggies for long term storage...

    Iwan Ries and Milan Tobacconists

I would agree that since they're IWR blends IWR most likely owns the recipes. If that is true then they would most likely have another manufacturer blend it. Though I doubt it would taste the same, unless they're able to acquire the same tobaccos from the same fields/ distributors.

Is It Better to Leave Unopened Tins in Their Tins or Jar Them?

I've always been a believer in leaving the tobacco in their original tins. Unless the tin's seal has been compromised, I'd leave it be.
