    Need Pipe suggestions

I think there are a few routes you can take, all at the same time if you want. There are factory pipes (like Peterson's, Savinelli, and Stanwell), larger brand artisan pipes like your Nording, and artisan pipes from individual makers like Glenn Tinsky and Rich from Smithhousepipes. You'll find...

***What Are You Smoking, August 2023?***

Midmorning bowl of some Ampersand Flake by LJP. One of my favorites in my current rotation. Similar to Evening Flake by Stokkebye, I think. This Altinay nosewarmer is about two years old now and smoked almost daily.

    Buying Pipe Tobacco in SoCal

If you're willing to make the trip up to Culver City in Los Angeles, I recommend the Tobacco Trader. Half of the store is dedicated to cigars and the other half to pipes and pipe tobacco. They carry a lot of nice pipes and not only have all pipe tobacco staples always in stock, they often get...

    Reaming a Meerschaum

I smoke meerschaums almost exclusively and like to use a single-bladed reamer tool after each smoke (carefully). I pretty much keep any cake from ever forming in my meers.

    Pipe Polishing: Needed?

I don't polish my pipes with any regularity. If I feel so inclined, a little carnauba wax on the buffing wheel is all that's needed to bring out the shine again. Also, I use Obsidian Pipe Stem Oil on both my acrylic and Ebonite stems (as well as on the briar itself).

    Favorite “Plain” Tobacco

For me, a "plain" blend would be something rather one-dimensional and without much casing or any topping but still enjoyable. Penny Farthing by G.L. Pease is what comes to mind first for me, even though it's a little unusual with a shag cut.

Does my Briar Pipe really Need Resting ?

I don't rest my briar pipes on purpose but I've noticed they smoke increasingly wet when used back to back. That said, I only regularly smoke out of four pipes - three of which are meerschaums. The meerschaums tend to smoke a bit cooler and can be smoked back to back more successfully, in my...

Who Taught You to Smoke a Pipe?

I started smoking a pipe at age 17 and remember trying to teach myself. I wasn't very successful. A year later, I was traveling in Venice, Italy and also studying Italian. My teacher, Paulo Venerando, also smoked a pipe and taught me about the different kinds of blends in Italian. He also taught...
