The Burley & The Briar in Bloomington, Indiana

If you ever get anywhere near this place, you need to go. I mean like, if you're in the same state, go. It's so worth it in every way. The pipes and pipe tobacco choices here are above and beyond anything I could have ever imagined. I took a few snaps of some cases, but this was maybe only 10%...

    In Banjo Fashion...

I'm keeping it smokey with a little Old Still in a bent apple Capri with several shots of Bulleit Bourbon on the wife's family front porch in Des Moines, Iowa and it could just not be a more perfect night. Happy Smoking Pipe Brothers!

New To Me Estate Ceramic Pipe Rack Find

I'm cataloging my road trip from NC to IA and back again in another thread, but thought I'd share some of my finds in their own thread. This one here was an estate pipe rack find for about $30. It has places for 4 pipes and the ones I brought with me look great in it! I didn't think it was a bad...

Iowa Road Trip Turned Pipe/Tobacco Hunt

So, we made it to Iowa for our trip. Took a couple days from Raleigh, NC to make it here. Stopped about halfway to Des Moines somewhere in Kentucky to spend the night. I had already done a few searches online for tobacconists that I might encounter or even take a detour to stop in to see what...

Problems With A Beard And/Or Mustache Smell After Smoking

I quite obviously have a big ol' beard and mustache. I don't typically mind the smell I get from my cookie duster after smoking a bowl. Hell, sometimes, I can't stop sniffing after I have a particularly good smelling blend. On rare occasions, I have noticed that when I smoke certain English...

Any Good Places To Smoke In Des Moines, IA?

The wife and I are taking the long drive back to Des Moines, IA, in a couple of weeks and I wondered if there were any good places one could enjoy their pipe while I'm there. The drive will be a little long, but I do love road trips. If anyone knows some good spots, then lay them on me! If not...

How Does A Tobacco Even Burn With Humectants

I polished off a bowl of Captain Black Gold yesterday as I always find myself going back to it once in a while for what reason, I don't know. Just a blend I started with and always find myself loving the smell from the pouch so much. It still astounds me that it will never, ever dry out due to...

Exotic Passion Is Now My Favorite Aromatic

When I first heard about this blend, I wasn't really sure just how fruity it might be. I just got it today and absolutely had to crack it open and get that first smell out of the way. Riding down in the elevator at the office, I'm sure I looked a fool with my nose shoved in the bag of this...

    Pipe Carving Questions

I'm planning to carve another pipe as soon as my pipe kit arrives. I've carved a couple from some cherry wood a month or two ago and it gave me a little practice, but I never got into some things like I have planned for this one, such as staining, and I wondered if any of you carvers could help...

So I Caved and Bought an Old Dominion CC

I have been looking for an Old Dominion Virginia Planter cob for a while now. A lot of places seemed out of stock, but just kept circling back to the sites and finally found one with some in stock so I picked one up. It'll be interesting to see how I like the reed stem versus the plastic/acrylic...

Great Pipe Club Meeting Last Night

I often wondered what it feel like to be around several avid pipe smokers that truly enjoy smoking their pipes. Saw some great pipe work from a guy that's a part of our club. He brought a bunch of his newest creations to show off and another guy bought a beautiful freehand he made on the spot...

Why Are Aromatics Generally Weaker Than Non-Aromatics?

I've discovered for myself that I like certain aromatics, but don't like smoking them an awful lot because they just don't give you that kick like some other non-aromatics do. I've also discovered that I really do love English blends, but not all of them have the most pleasant room note. So why...

    Cob Collected Some "Gunk"

So my favorite cob, the MM Charles Towne Cobbler collected a little "gunk" last week. I never noticed until yesterday when I got ready to fill it and saw some pieces of black "gunk", for lack of a better term. I always wipe it out with a twisted up paper towel after I dump, so I was confused as...

G.L. Pease Maltese Falcon - First Time Reviewer

This will be the first time I have actually done a review for a tobacco product that I have smoked as well as a review based off the first smoking from the tin, so I'm not very likely to show the same amount of grace as JimInks, nor do I have as sophisticated of a palate, but here goes nothin'...

Searching For Tobacco Pipe Related Topics Seems Challenging These Days

Has anyone else become slightly annoyed when searching around online for either pipes or knowledge about them, only to discover that 95% of all search results pertain to smoking anything other than tobacco? I feel like I'm having to get so specific in my search string every single time: "I want...

Looking For Currently Available Holiday/Christmas Blends

I'm a big sucker for the holidays, once we creep into September, I'm already looking forward to fall weather, football, then my favorite holiday of the year, Christmas. I love the smells during those months. The pumpkin spice and apple and cinnamon air fresheners we stock up on for the time of...

Finger's On The Button...Beautiful Fresh Castello...

I have been in love with the bent apple shape for some time now, and scrolling through SP's Fresh Additions was this beauty...I can't afford it...Well I can, but I shouldn't, and I've always known that just because you can doesn't mean you should...but just.....look at it....the PAD monster is...

Are There Any Blends You Won't Smoke In A Cob?

I've found that as I smoke my cobs, once I get down to about the last 1/4 of a bowl, the draft hole is so large that I end up pulling ash in from the bowl. Once any blend I'm smoking gets to this point, I'm just tossing it. I enjoy smoking all of my tobacco when I can and when it will smoke to...

First Venture Truly Smoking in Public...Didn't Make Me Feel Too Good

The wife and I headed down to the Outer Banks this weekend for a little day trip and wanted to hit up our favorite restaurant down there. A little cinder block building that's grown since last we ate there, called Tortuga's Lie. They have the best fish tacos I've ever had. Well, we got there and...

Sandblast/Rusticated Vs. Smooth: Is A Sandblast/Rusticated Pipe Inferior Briar?

I've been curious about this, but have yet to find a definitive answer to this lingering question for me. I know some carvers can and will use rustication and sandblasting to hide slight defects in the briar. Not all of them do. Personally I just prefer the feel of a sandblast or rusticated pipe...
