***What Are You Smoking, October 2023?***

COC as in Corrosion of Conformity? Wow, that brings back some memories of the ATL hardcore scene. 688 club, The Metroplex. It's been a minute!

    Most Floral Lakelands?

As others have mentioned: #7 Broken Flake. I've smoked about 20 GH blends and that is by far the one with the heaviest perfume. In a cobb it was like smoking incense, in a good way. It was somewhat more subdued in a briar but still quite potent. The GH toppings all taste and smell purely...

Second bowl of SG St. James Flake in this lovely Rattray's Dark Ale poker.

    Medico Meerschaum Any Info?

Here's a NOS Medico Meer on eBay. Seller has two available. I would buy it but I already own one. It's a very nice pipe, just don't need two! Hopefully someone will enjoy it. If you do buy it, please make a scan of the Medico pipe brochure included. It would be cool to have that as a computer...

***What Are You Smoking, October 2023?***

Last night: first bowl of SG St. James Flake in my trusty Peterson 9mm 303. Mighty delicious. I bought the last tin at Havana House in Oxford last month. I think I am now a confirmed Va/Per.

***What Are You Smoking, October 2023?***

We were in the UK in Sept and saw a lot of youngsters puffing on those disposable vapes that smell like cola and bubble gum. I think what that is teaching them is OCD compulsive behavior. It's like a pacifier they suck on. Pipe smoking of course encourages leisure and contemplation... can't have...

Love how Oscar dropped in some "Surrey with the Fringe on Top" at the 1:08 mark.

Amazing photograph. Love everything about it. I just want to be in that room hearing them play. The singer looks like a doll, too.

    Breaking In A New Pipe

Were the Arklows the old chemical dip stain? APBC is gum arabic and activated charcoal so there's nothing that could really taste too bad. Peterson now uses this APBC on all their new pipes. I've bought three new Petes this year and they've all smoked great right out of the gate. Not perfect...

Who did you tour with? I was a big Death Metal guy back in my younger and wilder days. Now I am far more likely to listen to Red Garland or Oscar Peterson.

    Breaking In A New Pipe

I think the break in is really just the bowl getting hot, then cold, then hot, then cold, etc. One of my favorite break-in loads is burley mixed with black cavendish. The sweetness of the cavendish helps mitigate any sharp notes in the first few bowls. The Peterson Pipe Notes All Purpose Bowl...

First bowl of SG Full Virginia Flake in a Rattray's Dark Ale poker with a little Johnnie Walker Black. Delightful.

Recommendations for Moving Away from Aromatics.

That is a good one that is currently lost in the back of the cabinet! Very tasty burley blend. I find that much more agreeable than Ready Rub Match.

Recommendations for Moving Away from Aromatics.

I smoke a lot of Stokkebye blends and love them all, except for Nougat. I tried and tried but that one bit me over and over again for some reason. One PS blend really adore is 301 Natural Dutch Cavendish. It's a nice, sweet and fruity Virginia with some Burley content to give it some pop. Very...

Wanting a Small Chambered Pipe: Recommendations?

Many of the Dr. Grabow and Medico pipes I've seen are quite small. I have a bent, very small Starfire Continental 42 that can barely fit the tip of my (entirely average) pinky finger, and I've seen billiards the same size. The "SLIM" size of any straight pipe on the Dr. Grabow shape chart will...

Wanting a Small Chambered Pipe: Recommendations?

The 317 is the smallest bowl and the 313 is just a hair deeper at #2. I love my 313 Rusticated which is, oddly, just a touch lighter than the 317 with the same finish. The 313 with a ribbon cut smokes in about 20 minutes. Lovely little pipe. BTW: all of the Peterson Army mounts are the exact...
