***What Are You Smoking, May 2022?***

I went a bit crazy exploring Ken Byron and bought about 20 bags. Enjoying a lot of them. Brown Flek at the moment. Been smoking Royal twist by Mac Baren, Best Brown #2 and a good bit of Penzance this month so far. kBV is great though. Lots of good options.

Smoking Half a Bowl and Finishing it Later

I do it every day There’s too many times I have to put a pipe down for 15 minutes or 3 hours. It’s not like cIgars at all. I’ve got a ton of tobacco too so it’s not a conserving thing. Just no need to repack imo

    Oldest Cob in Use

Still got my first Cob which was my 3rd pipe. A MM country gentlemen and a 5th Ave I got at the same time years ago. No issues at all.

    Your Cellar Size

I bought about 50 tins last month. I discovered Ken Byron’s blends a month ago and then went nuts and got 20 bags or so. I try somethjg and if I love it, I immediately want more to age. No clue how much I’ve got but it’s too much. Moving in a couple months and I’ll find out. Lol.

    Suggestions for English Blends

I’m sure there’s plenty of great suggestions. I’ve got a ton of jars but recently exploring Watch City Cigar and Ken Byron Ventured blends. Really enjoying them right now.

    Pipe Shapes/Styles I "Should" Try/Experience

I’d think more along the lines of bowl shapes and sizes, smaller pipes and larger, bent and straight … vs style unless that’s your top priority. Get a classic billiard, a bent billiard or bent apple/Brandy … a pot or author … Dublin with a taller bowl etc and see how they work.

    What Was your First Pipe?

A Bjarne Viking Classic for $60 in 2008 ish. and I still smoke it. Bought it going in to buy cigars and always thought they looked great and felt maybe I was missing out on this entire other form of the leaf. Bought based on looks. It gurgled for a long time but not terribly. Finally I...

    Rattray's Pipe Quality

I took a better look at the airway and it’s not drilled that wide at the end, into the bowl. I’m going to use a hand drill and open it up. Beyond that, it’s great. I believe at the time, they were made by Butz Choquin but yeah. It’s varied.

    Ghosting/Dedicated Pipes.

Best brown #2 by Gawith and Hoggarth is great. It’s not really a Lakeland but its got a hint of it in it and it’s a great blend. Been smoking it since I first started. Tinned and bulk too.

    Rattray's Pipe Quality

Picked up “the judge” poker new for $80 on eBay. I was going to sell but liked it enough to keep and smoke. It’s my only one. I really like it but I have had a bit of an issue with the airway being narrow. For some reason it keeps clogging when my others done. Filter or no filter… I may...

    What Was your First Pipe?

Just smoked it a while ago. A Bjarne Viking Classic partially bent apple. I stuff everything in it except full aromatics and it smokes great still though the vulcanite oxidizes faster than just about any pipe I have and I have a lot.

    Best Light Weight Pipes?

Vintage Kaywoodies and similar are most often under an ounce. The Zulus are usually .9oz. Stanwell featherweights are a nice light carry pipe too.

Ahh finally got flake tobacco right!

Some great replies here. I love flake. It’s my favorite cut. Great for moisture, rub or fold… fit more tobacco into jars. Without realizing it, I’d say most of my open jars 40-60 or so are flake tobacco. I find the English blends less often do flake. It’s loose cake, plug but mostly shag...

    Ghosting/Dedicated Pipes.

Well, I have virtually unlimited amount of pipes to use. I say that because I could dedicate one to every blend I’ve got open but I have never bothered. I have more pipes based on size and shape reasons. I’ve tried for a few tobaccos I love like Penzance, Full Virginia Flake and others but...
