    Any Shakespeare Buffs?

Mrs. Hap says I'm a glutton for punishment. I don't know if that's true, but I do like taking on challenges. After achieving my goal of reading a book per week for 2020, I decided my 2021 reading challenge would be to read the complete works of William Shakespeare (or the complete works...

    C'Mon Smokingpipes.com!!!! Get With It

This thread is a great example of why this is the best pipe forum on the web. Crotchety men complaining, a slight detour into manufacturing processes, and straight-from-the-horse's-mouth info from people in the know. It's like a PM bingo.

    Any Masons Here?

Can we not get into religion on here, please? I keep my religious views to myself in the interest of harmony on this forum. I wish y'all would too.

    Any Masons Here?

Ha, right?! A common misperception about Freemasonry is that you have to be invited, when (at least in the US and the UK), it’s the opposite. The first time I visited the lodge and saw someone smoking a pipe, I knew I had found my guys.

    Any Masons Here?

Also, my lodge has a cigar/pipe bar upstairs from the lodge room!

    Any Masons Here?

Hopefully I can answer in the affirmative soon. My petition was voted on at the local lodge last night, and I’m waiting to hear back. I think forum member Briarfriar, who used to be more active, is a NY or NJ Mason.

Stunned While Puffing My Pipe this Afternoon

There’s always one angry voice ruining a thread full of good vibes and peace. And no, I’m not talking about @unadoptedlamp

    Seeking Knowledge

Lovat is easily my favorite shape, and I’ve found all the various ones I’ve owned to be excellent clinchers. Sometimes Canadians or other ones without the saddle stem are a little more difficult, but YMMV.

    Using Cigars As Pipe Tobacco

The author PG Wodehouse was known for doing this.

    Recommendation: Scottish Mixtures

I really like C&D's Old College. It's not for everyone, but I think the Cavendish really adds something to the blend, and it's very well-behaved. YMMV.

    My New Water Flush Finish.

Maybe a water-based finish (rather than oil-based), or maybe it was a wax which softened in the heat? However, if heat were the culprit, I’d expect similar results from a pipe left in a hot car

    The (Un)Official Secret Santa 2020!

Santa did good! Astley’s no. 44 and Bothy Flake, neither of which I’ve tried before. Merry Christmas all!

What's the Goopiest Aromatic You've Ever Tried?

Sutliff Pumpkin Spice. Don't judge me.

Proof That Warm Water Doesn't Cause Oxidation on Vulcanite Stems

Y'all vulcanite people should just come over to the dark (and shiny) side and use acrylics like a civilized person...

    Which are the Keepers?

The ones I can’t live without and have stocked deeply: Westminster, Haddo’s, Cumberland, Samarra. The ones I enjoy but could live without: Barbary Coast, Union Square, Penny Farthing, Virginia Cream. The ones I don’t care for: Maltese Falcon, Abingdon.

    Christmas Codger

Although I mostly agree with you, you are dead wrong on one point: Johnny Mathis is the pretender to the throne of "The Christmas Song". The REAL definitive version is by Nat King Cole. For myself, I mostly listen to the choir of King's College, Cambridge at Yuletide. I have a soft spot for...

    Military Veterans Please Check In.

US Air Force 2016-TBD. Nowadays I hang out with teenagers who want to be fighter pilots when they grow up.
