When I was a young kid back in the 1950s, we lived next door to a wonderful neighbor who came from Cuba. Her backyard adjoined ours. Sometimes she would make a small camp fire, sit on a low stool, and roast coffee beans over the wood fire. I liked to watch her through the wire fence as she...
Oh geez...sorry for the geezer typos and grammar mistakes.
Yes...they still make Clove/Blackjack chewing gum and ditto: Choward's Scented Gum. Best to order it online, it's cheaper. Few stores carry it and when they do....it's ridiculously expensive.
Choward's Scented Gum is the absolute...
Adam's "CLOVE" Chewing Gum.... was my go-to breath freshener when I went out bar hopping with the guys, back in the days of absolute my wayward youth. But, Choward's Scented Gum -that comes in a blue and silver box- was the best-for-the-breath.
I wish Altoids would expand to include clove...
The newest information and recipes for making some Kretek-like tobacco mixtures... is very interesting, but the end use implies that the smoker will be inhaling the tobacco. Not something that I'll be doing.
The detailed information about the differences in cloves and Eugenol content was also...
Congratulations! Crafting such a pipe with simple hand tools is quite a task. But you got yourself a nice crop of blisters for your efforts.
Step back with pride on a job well done. The next pipe you make will be better.
So, you think you'll become a full blown curmudgeon? Just wait until you're 71 years old!
For the first time in my life.....I'm glad I'm old. I look around, and weep. No joke.
Interesting to read thru all the comments. My first pipe was charged with "Mixture No. 79" and it made me throw up. I was 16 years old. "Sugar Barrel", and "Cherry Blend" ...also induced some retching, but I hit my stride when "Troost" was in my pipe. Compared to my smoking experiences of...
Just a nit-picking guess ......but it looks like the stem/shank were probably sanded/polished separately. Circumferential edges at both shank/stem interface are rounded off.
The "tell"....
The highlight, running along both the stem and shank should be continual and not broken at the...
I tried a few times over the years and was never able to register successfully, The process was frustrating. I gave up.
I only wanted to learn how to make a few pipes, for myself, but now, I don't really give a shit. You-tube gave me all the information I needed and without the hassle.
Interesting to read the comments by OP and what follows.
I made my own blend based on HGL, which I believe is RPL-6 with a small addition of some Latakia. I've smoked thru many bowls of both RPL-6 and HGL and imo find the latter to be slightly more interesting in both aroma and taste.
Both...
To OP:
Have you ever taken a ride in a New York City subway? Piss.... the watching of a feral animal take one, or, smelling the stale results....would be the least of ones problems.
But seriously...those days of mutual respect and civility towards neighbors and others, have long been wiped...
Just about 30 years ago, I commissioned a custom-made, magnum-size pipe, and only those extra long pipe-cleaners will work in this particular pipe. However, just the first inch of these extra long pipe-cleaners get funky...so, I just cut off the tip ends -and use the still clean, central...
Light a pipe, and relax in quiet solitude. Like sacred incense, the smoke will rise unto heaven. Contemplate and reflect on your blessings, and on the sacrifice that granted, us, the fallen, redemption...if acknowledged.
A blessed Easter, to all.
I'm not the guy for wearing a Bolo-"string tie" .....but I think a nice center piece, and those two hanging tips, if made from rusticated/blasted briar .....would look great!
On second thought....maybe I'll make one of these Bolo-ties and use up some of my briar scraps.
